Introducing another timeless jazz masterpiece: Hello Herbie (1970) by The Oscar Peterson Trio with Herb Ellis, the legendary guitarist who played with the likes of Jimmy Dorsey, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald, just to name a few. Ellis was a permanent member of Peterson's trio from 1953-58, while it was featuring a guitar but no drums - one or even the greatest jazz combo of the 1950s. Rediscover the magic of this timeless album where Ellis is joining Peterson and his trio again with Sam Jones on bass and Bobby Durham on drums. With Peterson's incredible skill, Ellis thoughtful playing and a more than solid foundation in Durham and Brown this album showcases exceptional artists at their very best. Both, Ellis and Peterson feed of each other and the album's fusion of playful interplay, together with nuanced arrangements and combined with the AAA remaster by Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Christoph Stickel, delivers an immersive experience. - The album includes a scan of the original master tape box and new liner notes by jazz journalist Scott Yanow. Hello Herbie is a 1969 album by pianist Oscar Peterson and his trio, joined by guitarist Herb Ellis.

Reissue of 1970 album. American vibraphonist Dave Pike gained fame from his work throughout the 60's with popular jazz flutist Herbie Mann, recording 11 albums with Mann's groups, also recorded with legendary pianists Bill Evans and Paul Bley. On moving to Europe, the Dave Pike Set became an instant success through the combination of Pike's vibes play and German Volker Kriegel's electric, acoustic, guitar and sitar play. Kriegel's compositions helped create the quartet's unique sound, encompassing jazz, funk, psychedelia, avant-garde, and ethno.

With her new studio album "One Grass Skirt To London" Malia presents a life's story filled with tracks from her youth and important moments throughout her life. One Grass Skirt To London is an 8,200-kilometer journey from Malawi to London, where the singer emigrated to as a teenager. Not only was it a geographical and temporal journey but also a musical one. Though most of all, it was a sentimental one, since the 14 songs carefully chosen for this album are so precious to her because of the memories they contain. Almost all are taken from film soundtracks, from "Everybody's Talkin'" from Midnight Cowboy to "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun, you find "Pure Imagination" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as "Here On My Own" from Fame. All of them possess an unique power to evoke an emotion through their music that has shaped her identity, helped overcome trials, and bloom as an artist. Thus, it's no surprise to hear, in the voice of Malia, sometimes even within the same song, the little girl, the teenager, the woman, and also, as if through a fascinating act of vocal transmigration, the soul of those who are no longer with us.

The Best Of The MPS Years presents you all the classics and highlights of Osacr Peterson's time at the Black Forest label on one album. It was 1961 when Oscar Peterson came to Villingen, Germany the first time. Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer, former owner of the hifi dynasty SABA, had just set up the first version of his studio, equipped with the most advanced recording technology of the time. This was the bait used by the piano enthusiast to attract the famous pianist to the Black Forest. After a performance in Zurich, Peterson climbed into a limousine and embarked on a journey across the mountains. As soon as he arrived, along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen, the international star was led to the Steinway grand in the living-room where a number of excited guests were eagerly waiting. "I listened to him play 'til four o'clock in the morning and lost the desire to ever hear the Beatles again!", says Matthias Brunner-Schwer, HGBS' son, still starry-eyed half a century later. The legendary pianist himself was equally delighted when he listened to the recording of the nocturnal living-room performance, never before having heard such a direct and pristine piano sound on tape. Peterson's enthusiastic response marked the beginning of a long-term friendship and spiritual kinship with Brunner-Schwer. In the following years, the Canadian pianist returned again and again with various line-ups to capture his musical vision on tape. The legendary "Exclusively For My Friends" live series was the very first release for Brunner-Schwer's newly-established MPS label with many studio albums to follow.

Life Enigma, originally released in 2001, stands as a testament to the genius of the French violinist, Jean-Luc Ponty. This groundbreaking album seamlessly blends jazz, fusion, and world music, showcasing Ponty's virtuosity and innovative spirit. Seven years after his previous studio album No Absolute Time, Life Enigma showed that Ponty was "up to the task of carrying the spirit of fusion into the new millennium instead of just mining the same old spent lodes" (All About Jazz). - The compositions on Life Enigma transcend genres, creating an immersive sonic experience that has captivated audiences worldwide. "This was a very special project because of the work I did with sound colors and atmospheres in addition to the spontaneity of our improvised solos", says Ponty about the album. - Besides his amazing band he also plays a great number of instruments himself experimenting with a multi-layered electronic approach that includes synthesizers and an electronic MIDI violin.

The beauty of Oscar Peterson's sound has never been as superbly captured as this. (Jazz critic Gene Lees in the original liner notes) - When the world-renowned Canadian pianist Oscar Peterson came to Villingen in 1961, there was a mood of intense excitement all round. Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS), former owner of the hifi dynasty SABA, had just set up the first version of his studio, equipped with the most advanced recording technology of the time, above the living-room in his villa. This was the bait used by the piano enthusiast to attract the famous pianist to the Black Forest. After a guest performance in Zurich, Peterson climbed into a limousine and embarked on a journey across the mountains. As soon as he arrived, along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen, the international star was led to the Steinway grand in the living-room where several excited guests were eagerly waiting. - In the following years, the Canadian pianist returned again and again to the Black Forest with various line-ups to capture his musical vision on tape. As Peterson was still under contract to Verve, the recordings could not be released before 1968. The legendary Exclusively For My Friends series was the first release for Brunner-Schwer's newly-established MPS label. - Never before had a recording captured every aspect of Peterson's ground-breaking sound so vividly: the virtuosity and the speed as well as the delicate inspiration he brings to the subtle and reflective moments. These recordings, made over a short period of five years, also reflect the transformation from equal member of a trio to soloist. All albums beside "Mellow Mood" and "Travelin' On" were released in 1968, with those two being released in 1969. - This will be the first time MPS reissues all the recordings from the "Exclusively For My Friends" series as standalones. All editions will have a scan of the mastertapebox and the original linernotes included.

Recorded in 1970 in the legendary MPS studio, Another Day features the lesser-known trio constellation of Oscar Peterson himself on piano, George Mraz on bass, and Ray Price on drums. While Peterson, who was 45, was still at the peak of his powers and world famous in 1970, the new members of his trio were virtually unknown to his fans of the period. But especially bassist Mraz would soon grow popular himself, appear on over 200 sessions including around 20 as a leader and his endless resume included associations with Stan Getz, the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan, Joe Henderson and countless others. The Peterson-Mraz-Price trio lasted for about a year, recording this album as well as the famous Walking The Line. - .Another Day has plenty of highlights, one surely being "All The Things You Are", which is one of Peterson's most streamed tracks. The performances show that this overlooked version of the Oscar Peterson Trio could hold it's own with it's more famous predecessors. - Remastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Christoph Stickel, this release offers an intensive look into the trios' dynamic, inviting enthusiasts to finally Peterson album Another Day is an album by jazz pianist and composer Oscar Peterson, originally released in 1970.
