Oehms presents the final volume of pianist Michael Korstick's cycle of Beethoven sonatas. Korstick, who has been named "Dr. Beethoven" by fellow students during his studies at Julliard, has become one of the most important German pianists to date.

OehmsClassics presents volume 10 of the complete Beethoven sonata cycle. In 1976, Michael Korstick traveled to the United States to study at Julliard. He became known as “Dr. Beethoven” and ever since, experts have agreed that Michael Korstick is one of the most important German pianists of our time. The first volume of this series won the “Discovery of the Year” award given by German record critic, Joachim Emperor. Volumes 2 and 4 won this award as well as the MIDEM classical award.

This new release features the complete symphonic recordings of OehmsClassics with Bertrand de Billy and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2010 when Bertrand de Billy was Chief Conductor in Vienna. Bertrand de Billy was born in Paris where he studied music. Starting as a member of an orchestra, he soon took on conducting. 1993-95 he was first Kapellmeister and Deputy Music Director at the Anhaltisches Theatre in Dessau, 1996-98 he held the same position at the Vienna Volksoper. 1999-2004 he was Music Director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and 2002-2010 he was Music Director of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna. Bertrand de Billy is principal guest of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (2013-2016). Since 2014/2015 he is also principal guest conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie.

Tchaikovsky composed his third Symphony in 1875. It contains subtle inwardness and grandeur, sometimes too much grandeur, elated folkloristic simplicity and contrapuntal complexities; the intimacy of chamber music and expansive Cinemascope Sound. This SACD is completed by excerpts from Tchaikovsky's famous ballet Sleeping Beauty.

Benjamin Schmid was born in Vienna and grew up in Salzburg. In 1992 he won the Carl Flesch Competition in London, where he was also awarded the Mozart, the Beethoven and the Audience prize. Since then he has performed on the world's major stages with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra London and many more. Probably one of the most versatile of today's violinists, Schmid combines his qualities as a soloist, the extraordinary broad range of repertoire - in addition to the usual works he also plays the Violin Concertos by Harmann, Gulda, Korngold, Muthspiel, Szymanowski, Lutoslawski and Schonberg - with remarkable skill in jazz improvisation.

The musical world is familiar with the 5 violin concerti up to K. 219; on the other hand, the Concerto K. 271a can't be definitively attributed to Mozart. It's dated approximately 1777 and was designated as the seventh of his violin concerti. This is an ingenious meeting of the soloist Mirijam Contzen, who has herself written all the cadenzas for the concertos, Reinhard Goebel and the bavarian chamber philharmonic. An absolute must for lovers of the violin, and especially for lovers of Mozart.
