The sisters Ani and Nia Sulkhanishvili won the outstanding second prize at the 64th ARD International Music Competition in 2015. This release was created in January 2016 as a co-production between Oehms Classics and BR-Klassik.

Bernd Glemser is "the German piano magician of his generation" (Badische Zeitung) and for years has counted amongst the ranks of the most internationally renowned pianists. Already in youthful years he attracted attention when he won literally all of the prizes that could be won in the piano competition scene. Glemser has recorded an astounding 35 albums and has participated in countless radio and television productions.

The Mediterranean Sea, the cradle of many great cultures and travel route between Orient and Occident, is the point of departure of this enthralling album by the Pera Ensemble. On this release, the Pera Ensemble has dedicated itself to the Early Baroque - the period of transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque period itself. The program consists entirely of Italian music adapted together with Ottoman music. This album contains numerous world premiere recordings.

Detlev Glanert (*1960) is a contemporary German composer who found early success with his opera "Der Spiegel des gro�en Kaisers ("The mirror of the big emperor"), which won the Rolf Liebermann opera award in 1995. His newest stage work is "Oceane." The premiere took place on April 28, 2019 in the Deutsche Oper Berlin and enthused the audience and critics and was hailed as "one of the most exciting new operas of recent times" by Berlin Newspaper "Der Tagesspiegel". Glanert and the writer Hans-Ulrich Treichel conceived the libretto, loosely according to Theodor Fontane's fragment "Oceane von Parceval". It tells the story of Oceane, a mystical female creature of the sea, that comes to land in search of the ability to feel emotions. The world premiere recording was recorded by the Orchestra and Choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the baton of Donald Runnicles. Maria Bengtsson excels with her ethereal silver soprano voice in the title role; the tenor Nikolai Schukoff as Martin von Dircksen succeeds in portraying the human inability to recognize the true essence of a creature beyond a dazzling exterior

Shin-Heae Kang, a young German pianist of Korean origin, has received numerous music awards, special prizes and scholarships and won many piano competitions, including the prize of honour of the German Order of Druids in 2006. She has performed in Europe, Asia and the USA, collaborating with renowned orchestras (including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the State Orchestra Braunschweig) and appearing at noted festivals (including the Mariinsky International Piano Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival). Included in her projects for the 2019/20 season is a concert with her mentor and legendary pianist Martha Argerich, together with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the direction of chief conductor Andrew Manze. For this release she has chosen a programme of Franz Liszt.

In May 2018 the premier of Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow was a thundering success. It was not only Claus Guth's sophisticated and insightful production that earned critical acclaim, the musical performance also received several accolades in it's own right. The energetic conducting by Joana Mallwitz, Marlis Petersen in the title role, with Iurii Samoilov as Danilo by her side and Kateryna Kasper and Martin Mitterrutzner as Valencienne and Camille de Rosillon, the perfect couple, had audiences spellbound. The present release is a live recording of the phenomenal premier at Oper Frankfurt.

With the Festival Orchestra Riga under the direction of Karsten Januschke, Andreas Bauer Kanabas models a force field of unleashed passions between love, treason and despair along well-chosen arias of the serious bass subject. In the moment of deception, the soul experiences the greatest disappointment, but at the same time also clarity and truthfulness. It is the moments of deep longing and melancholy that Andreas Bauer Kanabas traces with his interpretations and from which he lets a great emotional power grow.

Classical Music

Sebastian Weigle and the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra began their series of performances of Richard Strauss' tone poems in 2013 with Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life) - they now end the series sumptuously and philosophically with volume No. 6 and the works Also sprach Zarathustra (Thus Spake Zarathustra) and Don Quixote. Born in Berlin, Sebastian Weigle studied French Horn, Piano and Conducting at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. In 1982 he was appointed as Principal Solo-Hornist of the Staatskapelle Berlin. From 1997 to 2002 he acquired a broad repertoire as Staatskapellmeister at the Berlin Staatsoper. From 2004 to 2009 he worked as General Music Director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and acceded from the season 2008/09 the same position at Oper Frankfurt. There he made his debut in 2002/03 with Strauss' Salome, followed by the premiere of Die Frau ohne Schatten. For the extraordinary success of this production, he was voted Conductor of the Year in 2003 by the critics of the Opernwelt magazine. This award was already given to him three times in Barcelona: in 2005 for his conducting of Parsifal, in 2006 for Die Tote Stadt by Korngold and in 2010 for his conducting of Tristan and Isolde. In 2019 Sebastian Weigle will become principal conductor of Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo/Japan.

Like Richard Strauss, besides the dominating stage works Richard Wagner's oeuvre catalogue shows several works for other genres, including compositions for choir, piano and chamber music as well as songs. Amongst them, the Wesendonck-Lieder, composed after texts by his occasional muse, Mathilde von Wesendonck, the wife of a Swiss industrialist, have attained special popularity. Very special is the version which can be heard on this recording for deep voice played by the violoncello. Additionally, the 'Album Page' and prelude to 'Tristan und Isolde' in the cello/piano version by Richard Wagner can be found on this release. These pieces are beautifully performed on this release by cellist Norbert Anger and pianist Michael Schoch.

Manuel Lipstein's debut album juxtaposes expressive and virtuoso cello works of the modern era with the refined fantasies of the old master Georg Friedrich Telemann. All the compositions I have selected share the common feature of spontaneous, creative, imaginative genesis. Hindemith composed his expressive and extremely varied solo sonata within just a few days as part of a bet with fellow composers. Eric Feldbusch's suite "Mosa�que" consists of expressive improvisations based on traditional Jewish melodies and a lively wedding dance. In his own works for the Vier Traumbilder, Manuel Lipstein not only demonstrates his cellistic skills. Finally, in the famous romantic suite by Gaspar Cassado, the Spanish dance leg swings.

Mandy Fredrich's album brings together a series of art songs that create coherent arcs and longer storylines like a kind of mini-opera. The composers' songs were used to put together four stories about lovers, all of which revolve around the theme of dream happiness in all it's different facets! After her breakthrough in the role of the Queen of the Night at the Salzburg Festival under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, engagements followed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Zurich Opera House, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the State Operas in Munich and Hamburg and at the Bregenz Festival. Matthias Samuil has been Mandy Fredrich's accompanist for many years.

At the University of Basle in 2010, the stored estate of Evgeny Gunst was surprisingly discovered. +In his time, Evgeny Gunst (1877-1950) was a highly regarded artist. +He associated with important Russian musical personalities, including Alexander Scriabin. +After 1917, he emigrated to Paris, where, although active in the Parisian cultural environment, he died unrecognized and impoverished. +With this CD, the pianist Susanne Lang hopes to rescue him from undeserved oblivion.
