The Memphis Boychoir and Memphis Chamber Choir under the direction of founding director John Ayer, present a program of choral music for Advent and Christmas in the contemporary Anglican choral tradition. Founded in 1988 the Memphis Boychoir is a non-denominational, non-sectarian ensemble, whose purpose is to develop a variety of musical and leadership skills among boys in the greater Memphis community, and to provide a performing outlet for talented young singers. Rehearsals are twice weekly. The boys have been featured in performances with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Memphis. The Memphis Boychoir, assisted by the Memphis Chamber Choir, sings monthly services of Choral Evensong at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where both choirs are based. Their musical repertoire embraces a broad range of styles from the sixteenth century to the present.

For this album, Brenda Lynne Leach plays an eclectic program, including a newly-discovered Chorale Fantasia by J. S. Bach, upon the Berghaus organ of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Brenda Lynne Leach is a concert organist and conductor who has performed throughout the USA, Europe, Israel, and Russia. She has appeared as an organ recitalist in world-renowned venues including Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Westminster Cathedral in London, Moscow Cathedral in Russia, as well as in the USA with concerts at the Washington National Cathedral, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, Harvard University, Columbia University, and at national and regional AGO conventions. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony. She holds the DMA and MM degrees from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with David Craighead.

Organist Mark Williams and the men of Cantores in Ecclesia, conducted by Dean Applegate, present a sacred music program alternating choir with organ, featuring the Bond organ of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon. Mark Williams was born in Lancashire in England and sang as a boy at Manchester Cathedral before going on to hold the Organ Scholarship and an academic scholarship at Trinity College Cambridge. In 2000 at the age of 21, he was appointed Assistant Sub-Organist of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and Director of Music at St. Paul’s Cathedral School. He relinquished both posts in April of 2006 in order to pursue his rapidly growing freelance career. Described as ‘the shooting star of the international organ scene’ by the international press, he has appeared in the UK, Europe and America with ensembles such as The Sixteen, The King’s Consort, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia and the Gabrieli Consort and Players.

Randall Harlow performs his own transcriptions of Franz Liszt's 12 Transcendental Etudes for piano, and two of the Grandes etudes de Paganini, upon the Casavant-Schantz pipe organ of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Randall Harlow has long dodged conventional expectations. As a performer, he has eschewed the competition circuit, choosing instead to explore the outer reaches of the organ repertoire, from avant-garde contemporary and electro-acoustic compositions and forgotten works of the past to chamber music, concertos, and transcriptions. Performances have taken him across the USA, Russia, Germany, Greenland, and the UK. A specialist in contemporary music, Harlow was the first organist to be awarded a New Music USA Project, in support of his upcoming debut recording.

Claudia Dumschat plays a program of early baroque and 20th-century music on the C. B. Fisk Opus 92 organ at the Church of the Transfiguration (aka The Little Church Around the Corner) in midtown Manhattan, New York City USA. Claudia Dumschat is Organist and Choirmaster at Church of the Transfiguration, a national landmark also known as “The Little Church Around the Corner,” in Manhattan. The church hosts an active concert series and a professional choir of men and boys, the oldest such choir not affiliated with a school in the city. She is also Co-Artistic Director and Conductor of nexus Arts, which combines classical music with dance, poetry, and the visual arts. She was awarded the BM, MM, and DMA degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. While there she was twice awarded the Claire Coci Award for Excellence in Organ Performance.

In ORGAN PLUS WITH W J, Wilma Jensen is heard in a variety of music recordings spanning a long and successful career, as a concerto soloist, as a choral conductor and accompanist, as a concert organ soloist and organist in combination with various instrumentalists and vocal soloists.

Robert Benjamin Dobey’s study of the music of Max Reger dates back to 1972, when, after graduating from Oberlin Conservatory, he spent a year studying with the important Reger interpreter Michael Schneider in Cologne, Germany. His career has been filled with diverse musical activities as a singer, pianist, harpsichordist, and composer, his interests ranging from early music to premiere performances of new works. After his year in Germany on a Fulbright grant, his musical education continued at the Eastman School of Music. His organ teachers have included Marian Thomas, Garth Peacock, Michael Schneider and David Craighead. Active for many years in the Washington, D.C. area, he served there as keyboard artist with the Washington Bach Consort, Assistant Director of the Cathedral Choral Society, and a singer with the Woodley Ensemble. He also spent to two years singing in the choir of Wells Cathedral in England. He presently serves as Organist and Choirmaster at Grace Episcopal Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where his hobbies include devising ever more impractical schemes for landscaping his garden, and hosting visits from his many relatives. On this release, he performs 23 of Reger’s miniature pieces.

Dr. James D. Hicks lives and works out of Califon, New Jersey, USA, and holds degrees in music from the Peabody Institute of Music, Yale University and the University of Cincinnati. Other studies include instruction at the Royal School of Church Music in England. He is an Associate of the American Guild of Organists. Hicks held liturgical positions throughout the eastern United States, and in 2011 retired after 26 years of service at The Presbyterian Church in Morristown, New Jersey. James has recorded eight collections of organ music on the Pro Organo label. This is the third release in his Nordic Journey project, which seeks to create new repertoire from Nordic lands (thirty commissioned works thus far), rediscover unpublished and/or forgotten works from the twentieth century, and, finally, include a few of the standard masterworks. Many of the selections that appear in his Nordic Journeys series do so in premiere recordings.

On this new release, Frederick Hohman plays music of Bach and 19th and 20th century French organ masterworks on the Reuter organ of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Springfield, Illinois USA. Since his St. Louis concert debut in 1973, where a critic with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch heralded his pedal technique as "the best you'll ever hear," Frederick Hohman has excelled in many facets of the organ trade: as a concert organist, as a composer, as a creator of organ transcriptions, as a classical music audio-video media producer, and most recently as an instrument designer and an on-line music instructor. Frederick founded the Pro Organo recording label in 1985. Frederick produced over 300 organ and choral music titles under the Pro Organo insignia, with 15 of it's titles featuring his own performances. This is his sixteenth album.

Michael Unger, 2008 First Prize Winner in the American Guild of Organists National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance, plays the Paul Fritts Opus 26 organ at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, New York. He presents a programme of works by Bach, Sweelinck, Brahms, Rheinberger, and more. Canadian-born organist and harpsichordist Michael Unger completed masters degrees at the Eastman School of Music as a student and teaching assistant of David Higgs and William Porter. In 2008, he was awarded the school’s Jerald C Graue Musicology Fellowship, and at present he is completing doctoral studies at the same institution. He performs frequently as a soloist and chamber musician on both organ and harpsichord, and is a teacher and published composer. Formerly the organist of New St. James Presbyterian Church in London, Ontario, he is currently the organist and music director of South Presbyterian Church in Rochester, New York.

The Saint Mary's College Women's Choir, under direction of Nancy Menk, present a program of new choral music for women's voices, as recorded in the Church of Loretto on the campus of Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. The Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir regularly commissions and performs new works for women’s voices. An outgrowth of this emphasis is the publication of the Saint Mary’s College Choral Series, a collection of new works for women’s voices, published by earthsongs of Corvallis, Oregon. The Choir has performed throughout the United States and has appeared before state, division, and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association. Each November the Choir hosts the annual Saint Mary’s College High School Women’s Choir Festival in which 20 choirs from neighboring states perform for each other and a panel of commentators. The Choir tours nationally every other year, and regularly performs with the University of Notre Dame Glee Club in joint performances of major works with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
