The second disc of this set is a valuable bonus CD that introduces you to the wonderful and ever evolving world of "Break n' Bossa". The disc is a completely live mixed "DJ Set", featuring well tested tunes as well as those just off the pressing boards!

Musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Puddu (b. 1967, Rome) began his music career as a drummer at age 15. Based in Copenhagen since 1987, he pursues a music totally devoted to the Italian vintage sound of the giallo/poliziottesco and horror movies from the early-1970s: Jazz/percussive, psych-groove, his work inspired by soundtrack maestros such as Piccioni, Umiliani, Morricone, De Masi, etc. His latest release, Soultiger, an explosion of boogie funk for your dancefloor, features one NYC’s “boogaloo” pioneers, Joe Bataan, on three of its tracks.

They are: Pasquale Bardaro (Music & Vibes) and Barbara de Dominicis (Lyrics and Voice). Their debut album features some of the best musicians around both in the jazz or classic music scene: Mirko Signorile (piano), Gaetano Participle (sax), Vincenzo Bardaro (drums), Giorgio Vendola (double bass), Nicola Stilo (flute & guitar), Sabrina Consoli (flute), Alessandro Modesti (trumpet), the strings quartet from San Carlo Royal Theatre (Giovanna Maggio, Daniele Colombo, Fabio Centurione, Pietro Lo Popolo), Simone Barboncini (French horn), Mariano Lucci (bass clarinet) and many others. The arrangement are by Pasquale Bardaro. The tales of "Cabaret Noir" are haunted by paradoxical visions: A collection of melancholic, moody reflections that seem to find their ideology in a film noir... Mellow and sensuous stories but surrealistic and ironic at the same time. Cabaret Noir's atmosphere is an evocative sequence of soundscapes: almost an imaginary soundtrack that has it's roots in jazz.

This was 'a new way of making music' through the use of the electronic synthesizer - this happening in 1971 - with occasional interventions by the spinet and the Hammond organ. The most 'avant-garde' Umiliani can be found here, with excellent examples of a Maestro exploring new sounds and the future of the music.

Ad Lib is from the Latin "Ad Libtum" which means "at your pleasure" or "freely". This album of Italian bossa jazz with Brazilian & Afro-Cuban flavors clearly demonstrates that freedom of expression, bringing together sounds of the past, present & future. Features guest appearances by Soulstance.

A true treat: de Souza and producer Nicola Conte offer 11 different takes on the songs from de Souza's critically acclaimed debut album "Garota Moderna" ("Modern Girl"). Hers is the sultry voice that evokes memories of the best Brazilian vocalists of the 1960 's and their total passion for their craft and de Souza joined their ranks with the stunning premiere volume of her discography. With this disc, we are presented with remixes of those songs that offer an entirely new dimension to this now classic album. The reconstructions are accomplished by the likes of Zero db, Stateless, Big Bang, Buscemi, Dining Rooms, Raw Deal, the Truby Trio, Povo and more. Each is well known in the chill out community of remixers and they have each performed an invaluable service to music lovers everywhere.

Gianni Oddi’s extremely rare 1974 Italian RCA LP “Style” was not conceived for sale but for synchronization purposes only, a practice quite common in Italy then. Many labels produced music for film, radio and TV, subsequently making the limited vinyl quantities rapidly collectible. The album’s killer track ‘Popoff’ is a superb example of Italian 70s Jazz Funk infused with a Progressive flavor, which was trending at that time.

A compilation that features artists who have kept a sincere ear to the Jazz productions that populated the scene of the 50's, 60's, & 70's. Their styles are kept in accordance with those times while drawing influences from not only Latin and Brazilian Jazz, but American Jazz as well. The disc includes some of the more predominant artists that have made a name for themselves by interpolating the styles of yesteryear.

“Music especially created for films, television, radio, publicity and industrial use”. Despite the disclaimer attaching to these two records this is top quality material (even if often hidden behind weird and mysterious titles), which can’t be compared to anything released in recent times. + Paolo Renosto (1935-88), the person behind the moniker Lesiman and the author of these two albums, was an artist with the amazing skill of mixing together pop(ular) atmospheres and learned quotes. + Renosto/Lesiman created many high profile and now very rare collector items, deserving to be rediscovered.

This release marks the debut Schema album from Italian vocalist Andrea Balducci, an up-and-coming singer working within the tradition of classic crooners like Frank Sinatra to those of today like Michael Buble and Jamie Cullum. Wise tune selection, classy arrangements by Pietro Ciancaglini and support from an assemblage of top-flight Italian and Finnish Jazz musicians allow Mr. Balducci's voice to shine through.

Bassist, percussionist and arranger Pantaleón Perez Prado (1928-83) the younger brother of the famous Dámaso Perez Prado (“King of Mambo”) arrived in Europe in the 1950s, whereupon he set about pursuing his musical career in mambo.In the early 1970s, Pantaleón settled in Milan where he recorded two LPs, ʻEscandalo!ʼ (1972) and ʻPerez Prado - Don Alfioʼ (1973), both featuring a powerful ‘Big Funk Band’ sound and both still considered to be two incredible musical gems.After the sunset of “mambo fever”, Pantaleón was able to reveal a funky attitude that comes out in these amazing recordings.

This brand new album is therefore a sort of homecoming of Lo Greco to jazz recordings. Reflections reveals a new phase in Lo Greco history, a stage in which maturity becomes the absolute factor. The most they get experienced in music the most they dig and research into past influences. If at the beginning of their career their stylistic mark could be identified in fusion, nowadays, in 2003 Lo Greco decide to start a time-trip to homage some big names of jazz and a fantastic period of (afro) American music. Maturity is therefore the key to read this album, maturity as a particular needing and inspiration. The reference of this music is then coming from late '50 and in particular all the Coltrane works. This is clearly shown in the drum patterns, really influenced from Elvin Jones style (the famous "three in four") to create a spiritual atmosphere and the title itself, "Reflections", is an homage to Davis and Coltrane. The record features great musicians like Marco Bianchi on piano, well known composer and arranger, e Sandro Cerino, a fabulous flute player , but the real surprise is Rosen sax, really relaxed, like searching for a peaceful dimension, for a spiritual highness to permit "Reflections" in the deep of one's mind. Schema is more than ever operating on various fronts, even against mainstream commercial choices, as shown in the years by the release of albums like The Jazz Convention, Quartetto Moderno and Schema Sextet. The voyage into jazz music for Schema is still on.
