The Miser (L'Avare) is undoubtedly Molière's most famous play. It is one of his most frequently performed masterpieces and has become a staple of the Comédie-Française repertoire. This box set also includes: L'Étourdi ou les Contretemps (inspired by the commedia dell'arte) and Le Dépit amoureux (a study of feelings and social misunderstandings). The great names of classical theater (Georges Chamarat, Albert Reyval) and popular French theater (Michel Galabru, Daniel Prévost) give us the opportunity to hear these immortal classics of our literary heritage. In this poignant and personal work, Benjamin Stora traces the history of Algeria, blending grand history with personal memories: stories of his childhood in Constantine, his family's exile in 1962, and his long quest for a shared truth about colonization and the war of independence. Both witness and historian, he sheds light on the conflicts of memory-Pieds-Noirs, Harkis, immigrants, Algerian Jews-and shows how these wounds still shape Algerian and French societies. The tone alternates between autobiographical testimony, rigorous historical investigation, and a plea for reconciliation through knowledge. Written by an "actor-researcher," it is aimed at both the general public and specialists: an invitation to understand Algeria through a life story that speaks to both sides of the Mediterranean. By addressing hybrid identities, paths to assimilation, and quests for self, his narrative takes on a dimension that is both intimate and universal. Claude Colombini Frémeaux

The notion of protection highlights contrasting realities: on one hand, Palestinians, deprived of security guarantees; on the other, Israelis, marked by the fear of a constant threat. These situations fuel tensions, particularly annexation, settlement expansion, and international recognition. Emmanuelle Morau underscores, through these issues, a broader inability to guarantee and acknowledge the fundamental rights of peoples-a failure illustrated by what the West refers to as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her work raises an essential ethical question: that of our collective difficulty in recognizing all human beings as equal. It thus invites reflection on the possibilities of coexistence and sharing between peoples who stem from a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Audiobook, in French.

This CD, produced by Jean-Baptiste Mersiol, offers a thoughtful journey through the poetic works of Guillaume Apollinaire, a founding figure of 20th-century literary modernity. Through historical recordings, it highlights the oral reception of his texts by great interpreters of theatrical heritage: Jean Negroni, Jacques Duby, Maurice Escande, and Jean Topart. From La Chanson du mal-aimé to the poems of Alcools, from Bestiaire to texts from the war period, this anthology captures the diversity of a body of work that combines lyricism, experimentation, and memory. In addition, there is an exceptional archival document: Guillaume Apollinaire reciting Le Pont Mirabeau on cylinder in 1913, a rare testimony to the poet's voice and the history of recorded works. The Second World War remains the largest and most devastating armed conflict of the twentieth century. By it's intensity, it's excess, and it's global scale, it profoundly upheaved the world order. A total war extending to the four corners of the globe, it remains without equal in the number of victims and in the scale of the atrocities committed. It raises fundamental questions about human relations and the philosophical and political foundations of modern societies: totalitarianism and democracy, colonialism, and the right of peoples to self-determination. Produced by Jean-Baptiste Mersiol, this anthology offers a chronological journey through a selection of the most striking Sound Archives of the war: radio broadcasts, news bulletins, reports, programs, and official communiqués. Sources in foreign languages have been translated into French and are performed by Sarah Eddy. The conflict unfolds through the speeches of the major figures of the time - Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Charles de Gaulle, Franklin D. Roosevelt - but also through the prism of contemporary news reports. A powerful immersion at the heart of history, revealing both the intensity of the conflict and the moral and metaphysical rupture engendered by it's atrocities. Patrick Frémeaux

Following the first three CDs in the Bock reads Bruckner series, which were dedicated to the composer's period in Upper Austria, his existence as a perpetual bachelor on the lookout for a wife, and his veneration of Richard Wagner, this fourth of five readings with music now turns it's focus-again with a cast of readers-to the relationship between Bruckner and the sharp-tongued yet stylistically brilliant critic Eduard Hanslick. Through letters and reviews, it highlights how Hanslick's writings in the second half of the 19th century exerted a dominant influence on the entire Viennese musical world. However, six of his own songs, interwoven into the performance, also reveal him as a composer in his own right. In this fourth instalment of the series, Wolfgang Bock and Thomas Thieme, recitation, Elisabeth Wimmer, soprano, and Daniel Linton-France, piano, transport the audience into the fascinating world of Anton Bruckner in an incomparably authentic manner.

In this fascinating course, Olivier Barrière, lawyer, and anthropology researcher, takes us to the heart of an essential question: how can we coexist sustainably with living beings, both human and non-human, in a world in the throes of ecological crisis? The result of a collective effort involving 63 researchers, and activists from around the world, this book highlights a powerful idea: our model of society, inherited from the West and dominated by capitalist logic, has severed the ties between humans and nature, transforming living beings into mere resources to be exploited. To break this deadlock, Olivier Barrière draws on the wisdom of indigenous peoples to invite us to change our perspective, reconnect with living beings, and imagine a new legal and social framework where humans and non-humans can live together in a respectful and sustainable balance. - Claude Colombini and Patrick Frémeaux

Claude COLOMBINI FReMEAUX et Patrick FReMEAUX Dominique Bourg, a philosopher of ecology and politics, and Jean-Vincent Holeindre, a political scientist and specialist in international relations, offer their perspectives on a major phenomenon of our time: the return of war to Europe, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. By exploring the connections between multilateralism, armed conflict, and the climate crisis, they reveal dynamics that have rarely been considered together. Through a historical lens, the authors uncover often-overlooked links between humanity's war on nature and the wars it wages against itself. After tracing the origins of Islam in 7th-century Arabia and the formation of the great schools of Muslim law in the 8th and 9th centuries, the author highlights the influence of Greek philosophy on Islamic thought and how these thinkers shaped a dialogue between theology, law and metaphysics. Through rigorous and accessible analysis, he revisits the debates and controversies that divided these intellectual figures and marked the history of Islamic thought. The book highlights the essential role of these thinkers in the transmission and circulation of ideas between East and West in the Middle Ages, testifying to the richness and complexity of this philosophical and spiritual tradition. Through this historical and analytical approach, the author offers readers keys to better understanding the intellectual dynamics that structured Islamic thought and their place in the history of ideas. Claude COLOMBINI & Cecile BERLY Camille Claudel the transgressive, the sculptor of genius, the sulphurous and cursed artist, Rodin's free lover, tipped over into madness, locked up in an asylum for the last thirty years of her life. An artist too far ahead of her time, she broke all rules and social conventions. Her work became her life. In addition to her thirty years of relentless sculpting, she was, for most of her life, an assiduous letter-writer. She wrote hundreds of letters, many of them lost or destroyed. Letters that bear witness to her state of mind, her artistic ambitions, her tumultuous passion with Rodin, her fiery temper, her often conflicting family and friendships, her faltering mental health, her insane condition in an asylum. These are also the writings of a woman who, in a precise, pure style, fights against her isolation and injustice. Thanks to these letters, magnificently read by Emmanuelle Devos, we rediscover her work and her trajectory, and understand why she exerts such a fascination on a wide audience. Claude COLOMBINI et Patrick FReMEAUX Journalist, lecturer and essayist Laurent Testot offers an exciting perspective on the history of mankind from the perspective of the forest, as part of a recent and innovative trend in environmental history. The author traces the history of mankind, from the formation of the first empires of Roman, Chinese and Indian antiquity, to medieval and modern societies, exploring their relationship with the environment and their forests. We discover that, from the very beginnings of human history, societies rapidly depleted their resources, often contributing significantly to their decline or even disappearance. Forests are highly complex living ecosystems, essential to ensuring the habitability of our planet. The author takes the gamble that learning about the history of forests will enable us to meet contemporary environmental challenges. This course, recorded by Pablo Servigne, collapsologist, and Nathan Obadia, martial arts instructor and therapist, deals with the crucial role of fear in our lives. Fear of the future, fear of failure or conflict, stress, eco-anxiety, existential angst... fear hangs over our lives. They start from the observation that fear, often perceived as paralysing or negative, is in fact a source of energy, protection and stimulation. Rather than running away from it, the authors suggest turning it into an ally. They use the metaphor of the meerkat, a small animal constantly on the alert for dangers, to illustrate our threat detection system. The book explores the relationship with fear at both individual and collective levels, emphasising that taming our fears can lead to a more peaceful and open society, rather than one of control and excessive security. By accepting fear, we can rediscover joy and freedom, and meet the major challenges of our time.

Claude COLOMBINI FReMEAUX. Gabriel Martinez-Gros is Emeritus Professor of Medieval Islamic History at the University of Nanterre, a specialist in Umayyad ideology and a great connoisseur of the thought of Ibn Khaldûn. The historian presents a history of Al-Andalus, i.e. Spain conquered by Muslim troops in the 8th century, during the Arab conquests, and then ruled by the Umayyad caliphs of Cordoba until the 11th century. The civil war (fitna in Arabic) between the Andalusian emirs and the Christian thrust of the Reconquista gradually brought an end to the Muslim presence in Spain. Gabriel Martinez-Gros delivers an account marked by a concern for restoring the ideologies of the various players included in a brilliantly traced economic, political, intellectual and social context. The historian reminds us that this history of Al Andalus is the subject of a historiographical debate, the contours of which he outlines. It is also a challenge for contemporary Spanish society, which is renewing it's view of it's past. Audiobook, in French.

Claude COLOMBINI FReMEAUX Presses Universitaires de France and Fremeaux & Associes offer this biography of Leonardo da Vinci, analyzed and explained by Pascal Brioist, Professor of Modern History at the University of Tours and member of the Centre d'etudes superieures de la Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most emblematic figures of the Renaissance. An illegitimate son deprived of a university education, his self-taught approach in many fields guarantees the originality of this universal mind who was much more than the author of the Mona Lisa or the inventor of flying machines. He was also a renowned anatomist, engineer, philosopher, architect and inventor. His ability to excel in a variety of fields demonstrates an inquisitive mind that transcended the conventions of his time, questioning certainties and recognizing no authority other than that of experience. Pascal Brioist presents the career of this extraordinary man, set against the political, cultural and scientific backdrop of the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci's legacy goes far beyond his works, and his innovative vision has influenced generations of scientists, artists and thinkers. Claude COLOMBINI FReMEAUX Presses Universitaires de France and Fremeaux & Associes offer this biography of Machiavelli, analysed and explained by Julien Le Mauff, historian of political thought and doctor of medieval studies. Understanding Machiavelli's work and thought is no easy task, such is the shadow of Machiavellianism hanging over them. The author invites us to set aside these fables in order to gain access to the political thought of the humanist and Chancellor of Florence, Niccolò Machiavelli, and to the conditions of his formation. We discover Machiavelli the man, anxious to serve the Lordship of Florence and lamenting the various reverses of fortune. His thinking was shaped by observation and participation in the political events of his time, far from a rigid vision of government inherited from Scholasticism. We discover the rich political history of Italy at the time of the Italian wars, a hotbed of humanism and a political laboratory. We follow this man who, in order to serve his country, developed an art of the State as well as an art of war in works that were admired but also condemned and blacklisted.
