The "Welte Mignon Mystery" series continues to grow! For some time, this series has stood out from the numerous attempts at transferring the Welte rolls, especially for the quality of calibration of the Welte equipment, but also for the integrity of the rolls and the sound of the recordings. This is not a historical recording. Yet mysteriously the music is performed in an interpretation which is historically authentic down to the last detail. The key to this mystery is: the original performer was present at the recent recording session, but not physically: the music is heard on a modern Steinway. Never has music stored in the Welte Mignon system sounded so "right" or so well. Free but lonely is the romantic life's motto of the violinist Joseph Joachim, who was sponsored by Mendelssohn and Schumann and through his friendship with Clara Schumann and Brahms matured into one of the most influential musicians of the 19th century. - F - a - E, a series of notes derived from this motto, was also the title of a violin sonata, composed jointly for him in 1853 by Schumann, Brahms and Albert Dietrich. - Free but lonely is the title of a series of CDs presenting music by the composers close to Joseph Joachim, and by Joachim himself (including some works published for the first time). This opens up a fascinating panorama of romantic music, born from the fruitful exchange of ideas between famous and little known composers whose works deserve to be discovered.

However, what recommended them for a TACET recording was the standard of the chamber music which they perform together. To demonstrate this they have recorded the Keller Lieder" (Six Poems by Gottfried Keller) by Hugo Wolf, which many artists wisely steer clear of because of their difficulties and dangerous pitfalls.

Behind this seemingly harmless answer is a highly understandable intention: Lindemann did not want to offer himself and his listeners music which is strictly determined right from the first second but music which draws the listener and his or her imagination into the musical event...

Swinging Welte is part of TACET's "Welte Mystery Series" which explores the unknown piano rolls that rose to popularity in the 1920's. Fifty piano rolls were recovered from the basement of Hans Schmitz, an expert and specialist in the alignment of Welte pneumatics. Presented here are eighteen of those rolls, performed by various legendary pianists including George Gershwin and Hans Sommer.

The soprano Ulrike Sonntag, who recently gave a guest performance at the Vienna State Opera, has approached the Lieder with remarkable involvement. A beautiful, vivid voice, unforced and without false allure; and Gisela Andreas is a perfect, multi-colored partner at the piano. he fact that the whole thing was recorded with a prototype sphere-microphone makes the brilliance more obvious: this is a concert hall atmosphere. We awaited the third and fourth installments of Beethoven's Piano Trios by the Abegg Trio with eager anticipation. Now that they have been released, we can sum up as follows: our first impressions were right and our high expectations were confirmed; this trio, founded in Hanover in 1976, can rightly be called one of the great German piano trios. My immediate reaction upon hearing the first few notes of the clarinet trio disc was: more ever so-beguiling sound from Tacet. Soon it was clear that Tacet had also come up with another sterling ensemble (...) Zemlinsky's Trio gets far and away it's most convincing recording, and there have been many.
