For twenty-five years Ulrich Beetz, Birgit Erichson and Gerrit Zitterbart have been making music together as the Abegg Trio": and there can be no doubt that this is a very special recording which this trio, the winner of so many awards, has brought out to celebrate their silver jubilee. It is one which the Abeggs have obviously treated themselves to, because the Piano Trio op. 8 by Frederic Chopin, the Piano Trio op. 42 and the Novelettes op. 29 by Niels Wilhelm Gade are outstanding for the calm and meticulous care which has arisen from long practice with these works.

This recording is not only an excursion into the "organ no-man's-land" between baroque and rococo, it is also an excellent portrait of the Gabler organ in the Basilica in Weingarten. All the composers presented here were pupils of Johann Sebastian Bach, including the Erfurth organist Joh. Christian Kittel, whose choral arrangements point clearly towards Mendelssohn. a big compliment to the player, whose stylistic competence never gets tedious for an instant. (FonoForum)

The Seven Words are a composition which Joseph Haydn was commissioned to write. They were intended to be performed in churches, with each of the seven pieces following a short text or sermon by the priest. The texts between the pieces of music on this recording reflect the original plan and "performance practice". The role of the priest was played by the famous rhetorician Walter Jens.
