This CD, which has been much praised for it's piano and musical quality, has now been published on Audio-DVD by Tacet. In two variants the listener can follow Schirmer's succinct, impressive interpretations of the Russian cycle of pictures and reflections played on a remarkable Fazioli instrument. Ravel's Miroirs are presented in Tacet Real Surround Sound", the pictures are also in "Tacet Moving Real Surround Sound". Compared with the "normal" stereo Version (Tacet 132) the listener is put on the weather side, acoustically speaking, as if he or she was surrounded by the piano - not exactly a natural position. But the result is the birth child of good sound engineering.

According to the title page this is the ninth CD by the Gaede Trio. If the others are half as good as these ones then I've got some catching-up to do, I thought. Daniel Gaede, former leader of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and his colleagues from Berlin explore the whole bandwidth of interpretation, from a sparkling Haydn through Beethoven in his most dramatic C Minor mood to the cafe kitsch of Fritz Kreisler. The Kreisler arrangements by Fredo Jung do far more than simply convey the piano part: this is a fully thought-out composition for string trio, with a welcome fullness of sound and unexpected accompanying parts. Bach, Tchaikovsky, and now Prokofiev: Evgeni Koroliov continues his outstanding series of interpretations on the TACET label with his remarkable musical touch, and with flying colours. If the performers of these 'Fleeting Visions' did not include Svjatoslav Richter, the competition would be soundly beaten. (FonoForum) Koroliov is an amazing colorist, and he has given US the best complete 'Visions fugitives' I've ever heard. He has the demonic streak to play the 'Sarcasms' convincingly, and he even manages to make sense out of the Fifth Sonata. His kind of pianistic resources are uncommon in any age. (Fanfare)

Ulrich Beetz, Birgit Erichson and Gerrit Zitterbart, the three musicians of the Abegg Trio, are a faithful threesome: they have been playing together for thirty years and the constant motto of the ensemble has remained unchanged: authentic reproduction of musical works. This concept of "authenticity" has altered a little in the course of the years. In recent years the three musicians have become more ambitious in their choice of instruments. For example, Gerrit Zitterbart only plays on pianos which are from the time of the composition, here a pianoforte built in 1864 by Johann Baptist Streicher in Vienna. Ulrich Beetz and Birgit Erichson use gut strings for their instruments; and Stephan Katte blows Brahms' Horn Trio on a natural horn - just as Brahms expressly requested.
