This recording is a collection of musical moments dedicated to pianist Bill Evans. The three men at the heart of this project - Mike Ladd, from the USA, Emmanuel Bex from France, and Nico Morelli from Italy - create something very new from their respective traditions. Together, they are like a perfect storm, bringing together the past and the future into a swirling present tense. Bill Evans too was a bridge between two worlds, between Miles Davis and classical composers like Satie and Debussy. This bridge between styles is present here also as primitive meets the avant-garde, the street meets the steeple, the sky meets the ground. This is the space that is captured so beautifully on this recording.

This album is devoted to the works of Carson COOMAN, organ scholar at Harvard, and one of the most prolific, inspired and increasingly popular American composers. It contains three short piano solo works and pieces for tuba and piano, trumpet and piano and flugelhorn with harp; the first work is an atmospheric song cycle for soprano with trumpet and piano. These are world premiere recordings.

Schwerin Brass Collegium's new release features a mixture of well-known carols and traditional arrangements of Renaissance and Baroque seasonal music. Also included are tasteful transcriptions of popular works such as Corelli's Christmas Concerto as well as interludes for the organ, played by the renowned organist Jan Ernst.

This CD documents a ten-year productive friendship between a composer and a performer. Many of Matthews’ quartets were written for the Kreutzer Quartet, and they’ve recorded two previous CDs of his complete cycle of music. This release features all world premiere recordings.

Finally, there comes Hopeful Monsters of 2011 for string orchestra (the orchestra includes the members of the Quartet). Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street (a day in 1936 when, in East London, crowds gathered to protest against fascism), it is a fascinating canvas that includes references to Jewish music in its faster section. The title is borrowed from Nicholas Mosley and refers to biological mutations that hover on extinction. Lee Hallman’s exemplary booklet notes suggest this is reflected in Rose’s use of harmony, with its clear tonal references that it just as often seeks to negate—or at least toy with.

All pieces here receive their first recordings, and the disc was made in the presence of the composer. Unhesitatingly recommended.

In the most complete edition possible, this recording features Mozart's horn concertos including the unfinished movements and the first movement of K412 in which Mozart wrote some scandalous text. Herman Jeurissen did all the research and is one of the top horn players in the world. The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra is conducted by an inspired Roy Goodman.

Nigeria-born Omo Bello first got a university degree in cell biology before she decided to devote herself to music and study in France. Winner of many international competitions, Bello has performed as a soloist as well as in operas, oratorios and chamber music. For her first album, she chose the songs of Mahler's Des Knaben wunderhorn, some of which are rarely recorded. The last movement of the fourth symphony is also included here in a version for piano for four hands. Omo Bello displays a full range of talent on this debut release, experimenting with satire, petulance, melancholy and magic.

The music of the two composer cousins C.F.E. Horneman (1840-1906) and Asger Hamerik (1843-1929) was never properly appreciated in their native Denmark during their lifetimes. Now the Arild String Quartet sheds new light on the forgotten string quartets of the two composers with this debut CD for Dacapo Records.

This recording is a celebration of the famous Johann Sebastian and ten other lesser-known Bachs, re-imagined for trumpet and piano. Bach specialist Daniel-Ben Pienaar arranged music from a great uncle, close cousins, distant cousins, and five sons, all related to the great J. S. Bach in a unique recital program.
