Georgian pianist Misho Kandashvili strikes with his combination of delicacy and strength, breathtaking technique and musical sensitivity. Born in 1993 in Tbilisi, he began playing piano at age seven and entered the Tbilisi Art School Anastasia Virsaladze, in the class of Irina Boterashvili. Already as a child, he developed a great interest for Bach’s music, that helped him improve over the years a very high quality and intelligence in his playing. In 2002, he was the winner of the Contest of Georgia, as well as of numerous national competitions. He performed the Bach concerto No. 3 in 2003, which was the first performance ever of this piece in Georgia. That same year, Mikheil participated in the Georgian-German Young Artists' Festival "Tbilisi 2003" in Tbilisi, and in Schwaigern, Germany, in 2004. On the present release he performs a program of works by Georgian and Russian composers.
This program of French music is built on the cornerstone of Debussy’s most famous work, Clair de Lune. Philipp Jonas (Violin) and Maximilian Schairer (Piano) have performed as a duo since 2016. They continue to excite their audiences with their “natural and joyous repeat performances, played with a superior artistic level and exceptionally colorful tonal range”. Their repertoire features notable pieces ranging from classical to contemporary compositions. These include Sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, Grieg, Debussy, Ravel, Sibelius, and Strawinsky. The duo receives musical inspiration from their mentors Julia Fischer, Silke Avenhaus, Michael Hauber and Florian Wiek. Philipp and Maximilan first performed in a selection of chamber music concerts and also at various festivals in Germany and Italy. Notable examples include performances at the AMMERSEErenade Classic Music Festival, at the Happy Classic Hours as master students of Julia Fischer, at ZUKUNFTSKLANG in Stuttgart, with the Roma Tre Orchestra, and at the Montecastelli Chamber Festival.Following their European success the duo received a cultural stipend for a concert tour through Indonesia in 2019. Their concerts were celebrated enthusiastically by the audience and critics: “Two young musicians with exceptional achievements and a first grade musical reputation” wrote the Indonesian Press.
Herwig Zack was born in Frankfurt/Main. He started to play the violin at age 5 and studied with Karl-Albrecht Herrmann, Edith Peinemann and Max Rostal. Scholarships from the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes” and from the “Rotary Foundation” made it possible for him to complete his education at Indiana University in Bloomington/Ind./USA as a member of the violin class of the legendary Josef Gingold. From 1982 to 1995 Zack held the position of 1 st Concertmaster of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, Herwig Zack has performed and recorded under the baton of conductors such as Karl Münchinger, Ferdinand Leitner, Uri Segal, Yutaka Sado, Paul Nadler and Gilbert Varga; his musical partners have included Henryk Szeryng, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Trevor Pinnock, Grigori Zhislin, Peter Nagy, Bernd Glemser and Ingo Goritzki, among many other renowned artists. The art of the fugue of Johann Sebastian Bach is regarded as a fundamental achievement of music history. The version in print belongs to the unquestioned canon of the interpretive history as well. The burden of the work had so far been so heavy that one could easily overlook the fragmentary and sometimes foreign character of this version. But there is a history of work, and whoever wants to come to Bach’s only self-contained version must go to the earlier possible version. Bach’s Art of the Fugue is a collection of polyphonic pieces developed from a single main theme. The well-known and recent version was completed by Bach’s son, Carl Philipp Emanuel, after his death. This release, however, shows an even earlier version believed to be done entirely by Bach. This study and recording by Kalberer becomes a whole of theory and practice, an integral process of philosophical theory, musicological research, absolute artwork, autonomous sound events and subjective perception of the listener.
Visions, the new release from the British-German violinist Caroline Adomeit and wonderful Ukranian pianist Nadiya Kholodkova, is inspired by the fantastic piano repertoire. Transcriptions, including eleven world premieres by Caroline herself, of works from the early harpsichord music of the Baroque era, through Classical and Romantic pieces, to Impressionism and music of the twentieth century (from Henry Purcell’s Hornpipe to Sergei Rachmaninov’s Italian Polka) show her complete mastery of the violin and her ability to produce an entire artist’s palette of colors. “…her playing has an infectious joy and rhythmic vitality… passages of crossed strings are so precise, and even in the most mercurial sections her intonation is perfectly centered…” (The Strad)

Founded in 1999 by cellist and gamba player Sabrina Lehrmann, Neue Freisinger Hofmusik (New Freising Court Music) view themselves as present-day successors of the prince-bishop court musicians of Freising. The ensemble performs on authentic and reconstructed historical musical instruments in differing combinations. Their focus is music originating from Freising and Southern Germany, and other places central to European culture in the 17th and 18th centuries. This album gives insight into the compositional master of Freising court musician, Placidus von Camerloher. Almost all of these compositions have never before been recorded.
The French composer Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, unlike his near-contemporary Bach, wrote music, and much of it, that, opposing the profound, inward-looking manner of Bach, exhibits a cheerful, somewhat superficial outlook very much interested in worldly matters of kings and courts. In the end, his efforts paid off handsomely, earning him today's equivalent of two million dollars during his life. His bold idea heard here, one that violated the composing precepts of his age, of scoring sonatas for two melodic instruments, are rounded off by later works of others using the same instrumentation.

Of the hundreds of recordings of Schubert’s “Die Winterreise” this one’s uniqueness lies in the countertenor voice - in this case the contralto equivalent (“Altus”) voice of Israeli singer Zvi Emanuel-Marial, heard singing the composer’s glorious song cycle, a first-time recorded occurrence. + Mr. Emanuel-Marial has been much in demand on opera stages as well as in concert halls all over Europe. + He has participated in the Salzburg Festival as well as Mannheim Mozart Summer, and has sung Baroque and modern opera parts at opera houses in Amsterdam, Mannheim and Berlin.
