Caroling is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years as a joyful part of the winter holiday season. Since the Eisenhower administration, the Singing Sergeants have been caroling at the White House each December for guests from around the country and throughout the world. In the spirit of that tradition, this album contains some of the band's favorites, including songs that tell the Christmas story, celebrate the Hannukah tradition, and inspire hope, peace and joy. All of the songs are performed in the a cappella tradition. Caroling, directed by Captain Chad A. Steffey, is dedicated to all of the men and women of the United States Air Force who are away from home during the holiday season.

Home of the Brave was recorded in honor of the deployed Airmen of the United States Air Force as a token of appreciation from a grateful nation. Several of the ensembles of the United States Air Force Band participated on this album, making it a well-rounded salute to the brave. The Ceremonial Brass, Max Impact, Singing Sergeants and Symphony Orchestra all collaborated on several of the pieces on this inspiring collection. Every song seeks to pay tribute to American heroes, evoking a feeling of patriotism and respect in each listener. The spirit and courage of those who inspired this album are what truly makes America the Home of the Brave.

Recorded by the Air Force Band of the Golden Gate, Alla Marcia contains a series of marches for band. No other musical genre packs as much punch into a small package as does the march. The basic composition of the march is fairly simple: movement, dynamically portrayed, using the basic elements of rhythm, melody, and logical form. On Alla Marcia, Captain Chevallard and the Air Force Band of the Golden Gate illustrate these components with the power and subtlety characteristic of the march style. Karl L. King wrote more than one hundred and fifty marches over his lifetime, many of which live on and are frequently performed to this day. His name exists among a pantheon of American march composers, including John Philip Sousa, Henry Fillmore and others. King’s work is unique in its combination of the quick precision of circus marches, with the regality of a military parade. Now, the highlights of Karl King’s work are available on one CD.

The music on this album emphasizes the American ideals of freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of education, preservation of our environment, and conservation of our cultural heritage. Recorded by the United States Air Force Band, American Treasures is comprised of a series of works that are musical symbols of America and some of the most significant compositions for band since the mid-20th century.

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE BAND OF MID-AMERICA: One Of Our own

Duke Ellington (1899-1974) carries a musical legacy that extends beyond the realms of being a writer or bandleader. His music still stands as a brilliant model of American compositional creativity. Although Ellington had a profound influence in the world of jazz, his mastery extends even further into several other compositional outputs including concerti, tone poems, film scores, ballets, big band arrangements and several operas. The four works found on Duke Ellington: The Symphonic Portrait are some of these masterworks that were eventually arranged for the symphony orchestra. Each selection varies greatly in structure, however Ellington’s visionary compositional style, combined with his discomfort with musical labels such as jazz and classical, resulted in a genre that integrated these distinct styles most effectively.
