Night of the Miracle is a tender music drama, which was presented each year in Washington DC by the United States Army Orchestra and Chorus as a musical Christmas gift to the people in the national capital area. A highlight among many of Samuel Loboda's awards and honours is the Emmy he won for the musical direction of the television special "Night of the Miracle".

U.S. Army officer John J. Pershing (1860-1948) was the only living person to rise to the highest Army rank ever held: General of the Armies. + He was also founding father of The U.S. Army Band in 1922. + A commemoration to this great man and his role with the U.S. Army Band, "Pershing's Own" contains many fantastic songs including Summon the Heroes, Close Harmony and Dance of the Jesters. + The Army Band is widely noted for its immense talent and stellar showmanship.

Truly a pioneer in his field, George Gershwin drew from European classical music, American popular music, and jazz to form a unique style that would come to define American music. In spite of a relatively short career, many of his songs and compositions remain among the most beloved of all time. This recording explores not only the original compositions of George Gershwin, but also the legacy he left behind.

Transcriptions of orchestral masterworks form the core of the wind band repertoire. This disc features the gifted musicians of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” performing some of the greatest orchestral works of the early 20th century. The band first plays three of Elgar’s famous Pomp and Circumstance marches. Stravinsky’s timeless Firebird suite showcases the virtuosity of the performers and the genius of Stravinsky himself. The album concludes with Respighi’s The Pines of Rome.

The United States Army Field Band proudly presents the second in a series of concert band recordings honoring the lives and music of individuals who have made significant contributions to the band repertoire and to music education. Designed primarily as educational resources, these recordings are painstakingly researched to authenticate standard performance practices and to reflect the original intent of the composers. The biographical information, detailed program notes, and historical photographs are included to provide music educators and their students with insight into the compositions which they hear and perform. This compact disc was recorded in August 1999 at Devers Hall, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, using multi-track digital equipment. Its release coincides with the centenary celebration of Aaron Copland's birth, allowing educators to use it as a reference in preparing for their own concert programs in the year 2000.

Included here are performances of Benny Goodman's Stompin' at the Savoy, Richard Rodgers' My Romance and Billy Strayhorn's Intimacy of the Blues. Drummer Louis Bellson makes a guest appearance on The Mode, Man, the album's final track.
