The album features the singles "Do It", "Catch Up", "Forgive Me", and the title track, the former of which became their most successful song to date. Ungodly Hour received widespread acclaim from music critics, with many praising the album's cohesiveness and the duo's vocal delivery, artistic growth and maturity. It also featured on various year-end lists and received a nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, along with nominations for Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Wonder What She Thinks of Me," and Best R&B Song for "Do It". The album debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart with 24,000 album-equivalent units, marking the duo's highest-charting album.
A rising star and beloved worldwide, Chloe Chua presents with PENTATONE the vinyl edition of Mozart's complete violin concertos, Rondo in B-Flat Major, K. 269 and Rondo in C Major, K. 373 as well as the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola & Orchestra in E-Flat Major, K. 364. The latter also features the outstanding young Chinese violist Ziyu He, winner of the 2016 Yehudi Menuhin Competition at just 16. In this performance, he showcases his remarkable artistry alongside Chloe, herself a former winner of the same prestigious competition. The soloists are joined by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hans Graf, whose connection with the violin virtuoso holds special significance. This project began when Chloe was just 15 years old, when she embraced the challenge of following in the footsteps of the many legendary violinists who have recorded this repertoire. In these refined and fresh interpretations, her deep connection to the music - written by Mozart when he was around her age - is unmistakable. 2018 release. Jazz duo recordings can provide an exceedingly wide range of musical expression including but not limited to, profundity, humor, tenderness, introspection, exuberance and a whole host of others which can all change at the drop of a flatted-fifth. This type of mercurial interplay is on full display on this live gig from the Theatre Port-Royal in Montreal, Canada. Morgan and Cables played together frequently and their improvising is imbued with an almost telepathic communication. Cables' large piano tone is the perfect accompaniment to Morgan's slightly dry, Bird-like sound. At the same time, their spontaneity and sheer joy of music making succeeds in even making the chestnut "All the Things You Are" sound fresh and newly wrought.
Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg frequently examine the tense relationship between original work and arrangement as a result of their formation. On Illumination the acclaimed duo has dedicated a whole programme to arrangements for two pianos, throwing new light on some really great works and highlighting the versatility of Romantic composers. "It is easy to make an impression as a piano duo using virtuoso effects. But that alone is not enough," they say. "We have the impression that we have compiled a sort of cyclical programme: Debussy pays tribute to the older French master Saint-Saëns, who in turn honours his esteemed colleague Liszt, who in his turn dedicated his B minor Sonata to Schumann, whose works are now in the safe hands of Debussy."
In 1719 the aristocratic Schwarzenberg family inherited the huge castle of Ceský Krumlov in south-western Bohemia, reviving it's distinguished but dormant musical tradition with a new ensemble of two oboes, two cors anglais, two bassoons and two horns, active from 1771 onwards. These musicians soon provided the foundation for a wave of chamber music featuring double-reed woodwind instruments that flourished as the instruments improved. It reached it's peak of popularity in Vienna in the last two decades of the century, but has remained largely unknown since then. This series unites past and present by combining some of the scores researched in the Ceský Krumlov archives (including a 1799 handwritten copy of Beethoven's 1794 C major oboe trio, which suggests it was a Schwarzenberg commission) with works composed more recently - mainly by oboe-playing composers.
Guitarist John Scofield and bassist Dave Holland, two of jazz's contemporary masters, have played together over the years in contexts including projects with Herbie Hancock and Joe Henderson and a spirited co-led band with Joe Lovano and Al Foster. Memories of Home is their first duo album, made at NRS Studios, in Catskill, New York, last year, after extensive touring activity. John Scofield: "The record, like our live shows, features tunes each of us composed, some new, some old. We share decades of common references musically. The similarities and differences in our approaches make for a more interesting collaboration, I think." The album includes Scofield's "Icons at the Fair", "Meant to Be", "Mine Are Blues", "Memorette" and "Easy for You", and Holland's "Mr. B", "Not for Nothin'", "You I Love" and "Memories of Home."
Kelly Finnigan has teamed up with soul music legend Renaldo Domino for his next 45, out May 23rd via Colemine Records. The A-track 'Keep Me In Mind' is a catchy, straight-down-the-middle soul tune in the classic dual male duo style of Sam & Dave, Eddie & Ernie, and Bob & Gene. Featuring organ and classic horn stabs, Kelly and Renaldo's voices blend harmoniously and make for a killer cut. The B-side, 'Let Me Count The Reasons,' is a track from Kelly's critically acclaimed new LP 'A Lover Was Born.' Slower in tempo and full of love and heart, the tune is a masterclass in romantic soulful sounds.
