Right off the bat, let's mention that even though the title of this album is Victory At Sea, it includes the famous Richard Rodgers suite which is about eleven minutes long. All of the other arrangements of the music on this disc are made by members of the U.S. Navy Band which is the Navy's premier musical representative in Washington. Known as "the World's Finest" the Navy Band was established in 1925 by an Act of Congress. The Band has participated in eighteen Presidential Inaugurals and presents honors at the White House ceremonies and memorial services at Arlington National Cemetery. The Navy Band also presents public concerts in the metropolitan Washington area and tours the country annually. "This album is dedicated to the spirit of those who gave their lives in the service of their country to achieve Victory at Sea."

The U.S. Marine Band, "The President's Own," has performed for every presidential inauguration since Thomas Jefferson. From the earliest days of the Nation, the Marine Band's primary mission has been to provide music for the President of the United States. Whether performing for South Lawn arrival ceremonies, State dinners, receptions or accompanying famous entertainers, Marine musicians appear at the Executive Mansion more than 200 times annually.

Liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness are blessings enjoyed by every citizen of the United States. This album, "The Blessings of Liberty", is a collection of inspirational music dedicated to the men and women who have fought and died to preserve these liberties.

Strike Up The Band

From the West Point Military Academy comes this great album that presents the Military Academy Concert Band and Glee Club. These wonderful organizations have a rich history, and continue to perform many concerts throughout the year that draw in thousands of listeners. This album features music for West Point including "The Official West Point March," "Pride of the Point," and "Alma Mater," along with patriotic classics like "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever." Led by Lieutenant Colonel Frank G. Dubuy, the U.S. Military Academy Band and Glee Club play beautifully on each piece, allowing the listener to experience exactly what the Band sounds like "in concert." It is the diversity, excellence in performance, and technical showmanship of the Academy Band that places it at the top of it's class.

John Philip Sousa's music lives on through this superb recording. Performed by the esteemed United States Marine Band, this is an historic compilation that includes such favorites as "The Stars and Stripes Forever," "Semper Fidelis," and "The Washington Post." Equally welcome are such lesser-known works as "The Bride Elect," "Jack Tar," and "Man Behind the Gun," which offer a glimpse into the music not so familiar to casual Sousa listeners.
Under the leadership of Colonel Albert Schoepper, the performances are detailed and filled with nuances exemplified by the clarity of "The President's Own." The musicality and responsiveness of this ensemble is extremely noteworthy, as Schoepper's renditions provide a rich, well-balanced equilibrium between the wind, brass, and percussion. The unified dynamic control of the group sounds effortless, as does their interpretation and handling of Sousa's relentless, almost whimsical phrasings. These supercharged performances truly illustrate the unparalleled tradition of the Marine Band's playing of Sousa's music. Simply put, there is no better way to experience the music of the original "March King."

Heritage of the March is a series of records of marches released from 1973-1980s. It remains the largest single march music record series in history. Volume 2 features John Klohr and Alex Lithgow. Included with the album are extensive notes on composers instrumentation the band and various personal stories from Bob Hoe.
