Composer Livingston Gearhart (1918-96) studied with such great and noted figures as Nadia Boulanger, Igor Stravinsky and Darius Milhaud. Performers on this collection of his original works, recorded 2004-13 includes his son, violinist Fritz Gearhart, the Oregon String Quartet, soprano Laura Wayte and pianist John Owings. Mr. Gearhart is probably best known for his hit arrangement of the classic “Dry Bones” and his “Session Series” of skills-building books. In 1955, Mr. Gearhart joined the University of Buffalo Music Faculty, retiring to Professor Emeritus status in 1985.

Chia-Ying Chan, originally from Taiwan, brings passion, vibrancy, sensitivity and creativity to her interpretations of classical music. She is an active soloist and chamber pianist, who has given solo performances and recitals across Taiwan, America and Europe, including at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Austurias (Spain); the Sala dei Notari (Italy); National Recital Hall (Taiwan); Carnegie Weill Hall (New York), and has been invited to perform at the Wiener Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Chan received her Doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where she is currently pursuing an artist- diploma and serving as the piano teaching assistant. Her DMA dissertation focused on the piano works composed by American composer Harold Shapero. Additional appointments include piano faculty at Community Center for the Arts, and instructor at Discover Melody-an international online-conservatory based out of New York, Beijing and Vancouver. She also serves as Vice-director and adjudicator at Chambana Music Competition. Her new solo release features works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Fine.

Miguel Llobet was one of the great innovators for guitar of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Guitarist Robert Phillips has made a rigorous study of these works and performs them intensively. Internationally respected scholar, educator and performer, and contributing writer for Guitar Player magazine, many of his transcriptions and editions have been published. Called the ''Van Cliburn of today'' by the BBC, pianist Alexander Kobrin has placed himself at the forefront of today's performing musicians. His prize winning performances have been praised for their brilliant technique, musicality, and emotional engagement with the audience. The New York Times has written that Mr. Kobrin was a ''fastidious guide'' to Schumann's ''otherworldly visions, pointing out hunters, flowers, haunted corners and friendly bowers, all captured in richly characterized vignettes.'' ''This was a performance that will be revered and remembered as a landmark of the regeneration of exceptional classical music in Central New York'' - critic wrote after Mr. Kobrin's performance of Second Piano Concerto by Brahms with the Syracuse Symphony in Syracuse, NY. On this release, Mr. Kobrin performs Mussorgsky's ''Pictures at an Exhibition'' and Tchaikovsky's ''The Seasons, Op. 37bis''.

Lera Auerbach, the Russian-American poet, composer, writer, visual artist, concert pianist and graduate of the Julliard School and the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (Germany) performs regularly in major halls throughout the world. To date she has published more than 100 works for orchestra, opera and ballet, as well as choral and chamber music, which the world’s leading musicians have performed. Pianist, scholar and educator Eli Kalman (Univ. of Wisc., Oshkosh, Dept. of Music) tackles three of Ms. Auerbach’s solo piano works, c. 1998-2000, including her 24 Preludes, op. 41.

Trombonist Maureen Horgan has performed with musical greats including Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland and YoYo Ma. She has degrees from prestigious universities including Yale and The New England Conservatory. Horgan is the Professor of Music in Low Brass at Georgia College and State University and is a performing artist for SE Shires Company.
