We are greeted by a slender and lively sound of the piano trio when we listen to the debut GENUIN release of the Eldering Ensemble. In addition to Beethoven's "Ghost Trio" and Mendelssohn's dark Trio in C minor, two of the major works in the repertoire, there is a Duetto by Louis Spohr, of which a recording is not yet available. This album features the world premiere recording of the new Urtext edition, insightfully played by the young, highly acclaimed musicians with verve. It is a debut album that will make any listener want to hear more! "Chamber music with joy" (General Anzeiger Bonn) is how performances by the Eldering Ensemble have been described by audiences and critics alike. Named after Bram Eldering, the celebrated violinist, chamber musician and pedagogue of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the ensemble's repertoire unites three equally demanding chamber music genres: the piano trio, string trio and piano quartet. The Eldering ensemble's unique and varied programs strike a balance between excitement, contrast and wit while it's interpretations captivate through their musical spontaneity, clarity and elegance of sound.

The violinist Julia Fischer pays tribute to her musical godchild Matthias Well, the 2017 winner of the Fanny Mendelssohn Sponsorship Prize, in the preface to his GENUIN debut album: She writes about his cheerfulness, his artistic seriousness, and his inquiring mind – all characteristics that breathe in Wells' album "Funeralissimo" from the very first moment to the very end. And it is a release that tells the story of the cessation of breath, bringing together funeral music from all epochs and continents. Exciting perceptual shifts await the listener, presented here on the new Genuin CD by the Duo Lontano: Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, suspended in a reverie, and the youthful-bubbly String Octet, which the composer himself arranged for black and white keys and four hands. The colorful images become transformed into dramatic black-and-white pictures and the structures emerge differently and more contoured than in the original version - particularly in the way the sensitive and excellently matched pianists Babette Hierholzer and J�rgen Appell - the Duo Lontano - embrace the tender romanticism of the works. Ensemble Toutes Suites performs the rare works of Johann Philip Krieger and Johann Christian Schieferdecker on this world premiere recording. Previous recordings include works of Sebastian Bodinus and Jean Michael Muller.

Once again, GENUIN combines old and new recordings by the Austrian piano grand seigneur Paul Badura-Skoda to form an unparalleled unity. Mr. Badura-Skoda’s recording of Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata, op. 106 – the Master’s fourth-from-the-last sonata – is almost 40 years old, made in 1976; it is combined here with Beethoven’s last three sonatas, the op. 109-111, recorded in late 2013. As always, one of the great pianists of our time rounds this program out by contributing extensive, thoughtful and well-considered texts for each work in the accompanying booklet.

Classical Music

The debut CD of Francesco Sica, Claude Frochaux and Irina Botan – The Monte Piano Trio – consists of five works of the late 19th-early 20th c. by five composers, all later to find fame, then still in, or barely out of, their teenage years. Founded in Frankfurt in 2008, the equally youthful Trio Monte enjoy a busy festival and concert schedule that has seen them perform throughout Europe, the USA, the UK, China, Turkey and Brazil, and been broadcast on TV and Radio internationally. The trio has "a noble sound quality, high sensitivity and great energy." (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)

On his debut Genuin recording, Christoph E+� performs horn concertos by contemporary Noewegian composer Tryve Madsen. Christoph E+� currently holds the position of principal horn of the Bambery Symphony Orchestra. In 2007 Christoph won seven special prizes in the prestigious "Prague Spring" international music competition. The following year he was awarded the soloist prize of "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" and in 2009 won a scholarship from the German Music Competition at the Geothe Institut. In 2011, he performed in the "Orpheum Foundation for the Advancement of Young Soloists" concert that was recorded in Zurich. He has held a faculty position at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart since 2009.

The first release by the MDR Radio Chorus under its new director Risto Joost is not just a confession of faith, but truly a confession of sound as well: the ensemble’s second GENUIN release presents Russian sacred music. What impressive musical contrasts we hear in the remarkable acoustics of Leipzig’s Paul Gerhardt Church: distinctive contours from the too-little-known classicist Dmitry Bortniansky (1751–1825) feature alongside the monumental blocks of sound and etheric soundscapes of Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto for Choir. Both works bear witness not only to the power of faith, but also of music, interpreted by the MDR Radio Chorus with eloquence, sparkling precision, and total commitment.

Jeremy Menuhim, along with his wife Mookie Lee-Menuhin, present this remarkable album of Piano Music for Four Hands by Franz Schubert. Included in this recording is the Menuhin transcription and arrangement of Death and the Maiden, in its world premiere recording. The son of Yehudi Menuhin, Jeremy, along with Mookie, breathe life into these precious gems of the piano repertoire.

Pianist Yorck Kronenberg’s second GENUIN CD in the Movimentos Edition finds the German pianist, author and novelist performing the entirety of the piano concerti of J.S. The double bass is so much more than just an orchestral foundation when it is played by Nabil Shehata: the winner of the 2003 ARD Music Competition and professor at the Munich University of Music is one of his instrument’s most renowned virtuosos. But Shehata is a lot more than that, as he proves in his GENUIN debut release: a full-blooded musician who knows how to best bring out the unique colors and qualities of his instrument – whether in original works by Glière and Koussevitzky or arrangements of cello works by Bruch and Brahms. The two versions of the Schumann cello concerto recorded here impressively highlight Benedict Klöckner, whose performance never sacrifices the intimacy of the most Romantic of all cello concertos on the altar of technical brilliance.
