Although Impressionism suits the flute very well, the greatest French masters did not compose sonatas for the instrument. On the fourth disc of the seven-volume series their followers, of various nationalities, will compensate for their absence, introducing the wide palette of colors of the pair of instruments. Ravel’s youthful sonata was composed for the violin but it can effectively be performed on the flute. A graduate of the Budapest Liszt Academy of Music, Gergely Ittzes is one of the most proactive personalities of the flute scene. While being a researcher of his instrument and composer of many experimental flute works applying the most up to date flute techniques, especially polyphonic playing, he does not specialize in contemporary music only, but tries to connect it with tradition. His large repertoire includes all the important works written for his instrument and a great number of rarities from the past centuries and today. In addition to classical and modern music, several other styles have also influenced his musical idiom, like jazz and free improvisation.

Rivka Golani is recognized as one of the outstanding violists of modern times. Her contributions to the advancement of viola technique have given her a place in the history of the instrument and have been a source of inspiration to other players and the many composers inspired by her mastery to write for the viola. Ms. Golani gave a much-acclaimed concert entitled Russian Concert of works by her favorite 20th c. Russian composers on March 28, 2006. The present CD is the recording of that concert. For the first volume of this series of seven albums, Gergely Ittzes has selected seven sonatas representative of the flute music of the 18th century. The works are played on modern flute but informed by authentic performance practice. Original obligato keyboard parts are played on piano while continuo realizations are performed on harpsichord. The players have aimed at an analytic, though spontaneous, rendition. Gergely Ittzes won several prizes and awards including the Aleksander Tansman International Competition of Musical Personalities. Alex Szilasi and Anthony Newman join Ittzes on the keyboards.

The 12 Caprices, op. 25 represent one of the most significant works by cellist and composer Carlo Alfredo Piatti (1822–1901). The 12 Caprices merge the great virtuosity and flair of the musician with the desire to restore the singing qualities of the Italian opera aria. Aram Khachaturian’s Sonata-Fantasia for cello solo dates from 1974; its title and structure reflect a Lisztian influence. Consisting of one movement of great breadth, this piece manifests a notable variety of expressions and timbres, suggested also by the indications of the composer. Two rarely recorded works.

The three compositions featured on this new release were inspired by the moonlight, hence the title of the album, Enchanted by the Moon. The album features compositions by Johannes Brahms, Andras Gabor Viragh, and Claude Debussy. These pieces are beautifully performed by pianist Balazs Fulei.

The name Arcangelo Corelli still rings familiar even 300 years after his death. Of his pupils, however, who knew him and could pass on his style first hand, we have very little information. On this recording, in addition to a sonata by the Master, we have selected compositions by these excellent violinists, who were celebrated virtuosi in their time. Apart from the Corelli piece, all the others are world premiere recordings.

Noémi Győri and Katalin Csillagh's new recording presents exciting versions of two widely celebrated compositions as well as a third piece that is well known among flutists. In Schubert’s music, we must highlight the noble simplicity which his contemporaries found astonishing, a characteristic that materializes in the impeccable harmony between the two artists. Their recording will bring you some unforgettable moments from Cesar Franck’s Sonata - a work that is often performed on unusual instrumentation due to its immense popularity. However the main reason why "Glowing Sonorities" should remain in the interest of wider audiences, rather than on the bookshelves of collectors is the stylistically idiomatic, devoted, gripping, accurate, and masterful performance of the Reinecke Soanta.
