The pedal harp was presented in 1749 in a concert spiritual in Paris with unexpected, sensational success. Contrary to the earlier rattling, clattering harps equipped with a "manual switch", the semitones on the newly invented harp could be changed by foot, almost inaudibly. Experiments continued to be carried out for decades after, but this harp of single-action pedals completely changed the fate of the instrument. From the first great classical era of the harp, that being the second half of the 18th c., comes this presents selection of works for harp. Csilla Guly�s is a regular and oft-heard performer on the Hungarian musical scene; Classical Sonatas for Harp is her fourth Hungaroton recording.

The present recording was made on one of the most excellent concert organs in Hungary. The intonation and unique construction of the instrument makes it suitable for interpreting 19th and 20th century organ works, too. The album opens with the music of Bach but it's main material, utilizing the special sound effects of the instrument, consists of compositions by romantic composers and works by late romantic French masters such as Mendelssohn, Schumann, Cesar Franck, and Charles-Marie Widor. Miklos Teleki received his degree in 1995 at the Liszt Academy of Music. Even before that he was winning prizes like the 1993 Budapest International Liszt Organ Competition. He taught for several years at the Siofok International Organ Masterclass, and has given first performances of a large number of contemporary Hungarian and international organ compositions. He gives 80-90 performanes a year, with regular appearances at St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.

Beethoven is extremely fastidious from the first bar to the last one. This is a kind of musical material that will not surrender to the pianist easily and therefore should not be oversimplified. J.S. Bach’s concertos are regular and frequent concert repertoire. These slightly more than two-dozen concerti, composed for orchestra, nevertheless constitute only a fraction of Bach’s works. On this recording, the Capella Savaria, featuring Liszt Prize-holder soloist Zsolt Kalló, perform reconstructed versions of two of these lost violin concerti, supplemented by two surviving violin concertos. The Capella Savaria has earned its fame as the first period-instrument chamber orchestra in Hungary. “One of Europe’s best ensembles.” (Opus Magazine, Canada)

This Bach program was recorded at Saint John the Baptist Church, Zsámbék on its 1770 period constructed organ, an instrument whose sound was deemed perfect for these works. + Miklós Teleki, one of the most prominent musicians on Hungaroton’s 2014 roster, performs several dozens concerts annually in Hungary and has given recitals across Europe and the USA. + He is teacher of organ at the László Hermann elementary and secondary music school in Székesfehérvár, Hungary.

The Reformation & J.S. Bach

The Armel Opera Competition and Festival commenced in 2008 with the mission of discovery - the discovery of new operas and classics that can be given renewal through performance. This album is the result of awards issued to Victoria Marcaryan and Philippe Brocard for Best Female and Best Male Performer respectively of the 2012 Armel Opera Festival. On this disc of the singer’s favorite opera arias, which includes works of Mozart, Bellini and Gounod amongst others, the Georgian soprano and the French baritone are accompanied by conductor Sándor Gyüdi and the Szeged Symphony Orchestra.

Boccherini and the minuet: these two words are as closely interlinked in one’s mind as Foucault and the pendulum. + Yet, it is not the title of an individual piece that has stuck to his name as an “epic attribute” but the designation of a dance movement he composed by the hundreds during his lifetime: nearly all of his 600 compositions contain a minuet. + Gergely Ittzés is widely known as an expert of modern flute playing, and one who is also committed to the entire flute literature; moreover, he keeps extending and enlarging it by performing forgotten works and making transcriptions.
