On a cold November evening in 1980, 3000 jazz fans filled the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier Hall of Place des Arts in Montreal, Quebec to attend what promised to be, a swinging evening featuring six of the biggest names in bebop. Billed The Concert of the Century - A Tribute to Charlie Parker, and under the direction of Dizzy Gillespie - one of the best jazz trumpeters of all time - the event featured legendary performers: Hank Jones - piano, Ray Brown - bass, Milt Jackson - vibes, Philly Joe Jones - drums and James Moody on tenor sax and flute. Local club owner Roue Doudou Boicel, who produced the concert, had the foresight to record the concert in it's entirety. A limited quantity bootleg LP of the concert soon appeared and then disappeared from the marketplace, those tapes lay dormant for over 30 years. This historic recording opens with rapturous applause that sets the tone with Dizzy's own "Blues 'N' Boogie. "Also featured are several classic standards - some more well known then others - including "Darben The Redd Foxx, " "Time On My Hands, " "Get Happy, " "The Shadow Of Your Smile" and "Stardust." All the players are at the top of their game and having a blast, as evidenced by the banter and repartee between songs. Concert of the Century, pristinely restored and remastered, features two tracks that weren't on the original pressing from the early '80s - Ralph Rainger's "If I Should Lose You" and an incredible eight minute bass solo by Ray Brown.

Paris-born Jean-Michel Pilc's artistry comes from an expansive imagination and a fearless sensibility of musical exploration. He is self-taught as a piano player and composer. There is liberty that comes with that, an unobstructed view of the palette of music and harmony. On his latest release 'Symphony' Pilc realizes that fearlessness and freedom completely. As he explains, the genesis of the recording came in November 2021: "Right after recording Spanish saxophonist Xose Miguelez's excellent album 'Contradictio,' and inspired by the perfect conditions at OJM Studios in Portugal - beautiful Steinway piano, perfect acoustics and technical conditions - I decided it was time for a "special" session as part of my solo project, so Xose and Jose Trincado, our sound engineer, were kind enough to let me sit at the piano for as long as I wanted, improvise freely, and be recorded. Without any intention other than making music, I started playing. When inspiration sets in, you leave the "real world" and music leads you through a new universe of it's own. That's what happened, and when I stopped, everyone was so enthusiastic about the result that they generously offered to mix and master it carefully for a future release which they said was inevitable. After listening to it myself, I agreed with their assessment. So here it is, and I hope the listener will go on the same journey I did that day."

When self-taught French-born pianist Jean-Michel Pilc moved to New York City in the 90's he quickly assembled a rhythm section of extraordinary skill. With Francois Moutin on bass and Ari Hoenig on drums, the now-legendary ensemble quickly established itself as one of the most important groups in the form. They deliver dynamic and engaging reflections on the expressive power of collaborative improvisation with complete instrumental mastery and superior musicality. Their latest release (the trio's first recording in 12 years) - YOU Are The Song includes only first takes. It is recorded without any preparation and is an honest reflection of what this trio is all about. "Instead of talking about music, we let music talk through us. Rather than playing music, we let music play us. In lieu of playing a song, we become the song and invite all of YOU to do so."

Paris-born Jean-Michel Pilc's piano artistry comes from an expansive imagination and a fearless sensibility of musical exploration. Expressive liberty is the artistry. "Improvisation," says Pilc "is often associated with freedom, but beware of appearances. When inspiration strikes, music has a way to lead you from one moment to the next that gives you no choice but to follow the flow. And when all members of the band hear the same sound, all of it, and react not as individuals but as part of that sound, then it feels like home, or family. Unpredictability becomes evidence, that feeling of evidence was palpable, more than ever when we were recording the album. The music was vital, to us and to the audience, and we experienced the full gamut of human emotions."

Diana Krall - Stepping Out (Justin Time Essentials Collection) Stepping Out launched the career of one of our generation's greatest Jazz artists. "Peaking at #3 on Billboard's Jazz Chart, Diana Krall's 1993 debut shows that she had the goods right from the get-go. Krall sings with honesty, subtlety, and persuasion while playing the piano with head-shaking authority, both as accompanist - she offers amazing asides in between vocal phrases - and as an absolutely A-one improviser." (Zan Stewart). The Justin Time Essentials Collection introduces the album (now certified Gold) to a new generation of fans, but this time with an added bonus track from the original sessions - Diana's incredible arrangement of "Summertime".

A gifted vocalist and prolific songwriter, Emma Frank's previous releases have earned her rave reviews - including four stars from DownBeat for her 2018 release 'Ocean Av'. The evolution continues with her fourth and most ambitious full-length recording to date 'Come Back'. Says' Frank "I'm interested in the intersection between folk song and contemporary jazz. In this collection of songs, we play with odd meters and tempo shifts, and the emotional interest lies partly in improvised orchestration, while staying true to a song form and narrative. Although we recorded with a typical jazz quartet - upright bass, grand piano, and drums - we also added layered guitar, synths, and strings to the arrangements."

Bassist-composer-singer Brandi Disterheft's fifth album, Surfboard (October 30, 2020), is her most accomplished yet. Joined by two iconic octogenarian masters - virtuoso tenor saxophonist George Coleman and the definitive Brazilian drummer Portinho - and world-class pianist Klaus Mueller, Disterheft authoritatively and organically guides the flow on a varied program that reflects her capacious interests. Her kinetic, harmonically erudite basslines anchor ensemble interpretations of choice tunes culled from the blues, mainstem jazz, and the Great Brazilian and American Songbooks. She sings those Songbook numbers, and her own evocative lyrics, with an instantly recognizable voice that conveys vulnerability and emotional intelligence. And she matches the high bar set by her partners on a series of creative solos.

With Mirror Image, Matt wanted to explore what's become an increasingly prominent theme in his playing and composition: the reconciliation of his jazz and classical sides, this album finally brings them together, both old and new, in a very organic way. Whether it's through Tribute to John Coates, the Ravel Concerto or Satie's Gnossienne no. 1, it's all one cohesive sound, one style coming from two worlds that seem opposed but are not; Classical and Jazz have cross-pollinated since the early 20th century, and their musical histories have reflected that mutual inspiration ever since.
