'There's something about sitting there-just me, the keys, and the silence. No beats, no drops. Only raw emotion. ' Amid the euphoric rush of electronic dance music, Armin Van Buuren found space in the quiet to write his most honest music yet. As someone who knows better than anyone what moves a crowd, he set out to discover what moved him. And often, that instrument is the piano. Containing 15 intimate piano songs, this album shows a different side to the world-famous DJ and producer: more personal, more emotional. First recorded on his Steinway, then arranged into proper scores alongside piano teacher Geronimo, this body of work is saturated with the vulnerability of stepping beyond his comfort zone: swapping the grandiosity of the mainstage for rich piano tones lingering in silence. It's pure, reflective, and as much as the beat-driven music he's released over his storied career-100% Armin Van Buuren. Piano is available on a 2LP set, complete with 16-page booklet including pictures and liner notes by Armin. LISTEN: https://www. Jul 26, 2024
Limited edition of 2000 numbered copies on smokey coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Decoy is a 1984 album by the famous jazz musician Miles Davis, re- corded in 1983. Robert Irving III on keyboards took over the role that Miles had assumed with a true sense of harmony and only a rudi- mentary mastery of synthetic sounds and movements. Irving shared the responsibilities of directing with the trumpet player's nephew Vince Wilburn, Jr., but Al Foster continued to lead the tempo. John Scofield drew the funk of bassist Darryl Jones in the direction of chromatic abstraction. The two tracks that he cowrote with Miles are fragments of solos, "That's What Happened" reprising the beginning of his solo on "Speak" (Star People). Decoy offered a good balance between the dominant funk that sub- sequently took over and the jazz tradition, reflected by Scofield's angularities, Marsalis' freedom of tone, and the breadth of Miles' playing that had recovered it's full power.

Oct 04, 2024
Limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on gold & black marble coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. The Man With The Horn is the 1981 album by Miles Davis, which he recorded after persuasion by his nephew Vince Wilburn, a drummer in a Chicago group that played music that combined funk, soul, and fusion jazz. Miles also met the saxo- phonist Bill Evans, the bass guitarist Marcus Miller and called the drummer Al Foster. The studio result was a hybrid record, divided between the Chicago group's pieces that he himself referred to as "bubble gum music" and a very free jazz-rock. However, it's less somber and dense than the damp jungles he wandered through without direction during the 1970s. The hit "The Man With The Horn" and it's sugary-sweet refrain received a lot of airplay on FM stations. Jazz lovers, rejoicing in Miles' return, delighted in the rest of the repertory. But it was Mike Stern's incandescent solo on "Fat Time" that everyone relished.

To this day, jazz pianists are influenced by Bill Evans by his use of impressionist harmony, interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, and his trademark rhythmically independent, 'singing' melodic lines. Evans gained his first spotlight when joining Miles Davis' sextet during the time Kind of Blue was recorded. After leaving the sextet, Evans began his career as bandleader. Limited edition of 750 numbered copies on smoke coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Lonnie Smith (1942 - 2021), was an American jazz organist. He was part of several vocal ensembles in the 1950s, including the Teen Kings which included Grover Washington Jr. Art Kubera, the owner of a local music store, gave Smith his first organ, a Hammond B3. Smith's affinity for R&B mixed with his own personal style as he became active in the local music scene. In 1965 he met guitarist George Benson. The two connected on a personal level and formed the George Benson Quartet, featuring Lonnie Smith, in 1966. After two albums under Benson's leadership, Smith recorded his first solo album 'Finger Lickin' Good (Soul Organ)' with George Benson and Melvin Sparks on guitar, Ronnie Cuber on baritone sax, and Marion Booker on drums. This combination remained stable for the next five years. After recording several albums with Benson, Smith became a solo recording artist and subsequently recorded over 30 albums under his own name. Numerous prominent jazz artists joined Smith on his albums and in his live performances, including Lee Morgan, David "Fathead" Newman, King Curtis, Blue Mitchell, and Joe Lovano. The album 'Finger Lickin' Good (Soul Organ)' showcases Lonnie Smith's virtuosity and his innovative approach on the organ, with tracks that feature intricate solos and groovy rhythms so typical of the soul jazz and jazz funk genres. Lonnie Smith was named 9 times "the best organist of the year" by the Jazz Journalists Association.

180g Black Vinyl. Comes in a sleeve finished with linen laminate. Recorded live at the Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center, New York, February 12, 1964. Featuring Herbie Hancock, George Coleman, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. Recorded at the same Feb. 12, 1964 New York concert that yielded the more balladic album My Funny Valentine, Four & More showcases the Miles Davis quintet at their blistering best. The great trumpeter and bandleader (1926-1991), and his stellar group, which was less than a year old at the time of this recording, mostly essayed tempos that ranged from Indianapolis 500 to Bonneville Salt Flats. Offering a well-balanced, albeit reconfigured, repertoire featuring the familiar hard-bop strains of "Four" and "Walkin', " newer, original free bop compositions like "Joshua" and "Seven Steps To Heaven, " and the standard "There Is No Greater Love, " which the ensemble performed relatively infrequently and is the only tune herein not taken at a supersonic pace, the quintet electrified a sold out Philharmonic Hall. Spurred on consistently by the mercurial rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock (23 years old at the time), bassist Ron Carter (then 26), and especially by the cross rhythms of 18-year old genius drummer Tony Williams, Davis' work, particularly in the upper register, was seldom more commanding. As for his front line partner, tenor saxophonist George Coleman, Davis would write in his autobiography that he "played better that night than I ever heard him play."

Philadelphian jazz legend Benny Golson, an American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger, has had a long and storied career. He has played with luminaries such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, and Art Blakey, to name just a few. His credentials are rock solid and his skills as a tenor sax legend are undisputed. With his 1978 album "I'm Always Dancin' to the Music," Benny Golson takes a unique turn. Known primarily for his hard bop roots and classic compositions like "Whisper Not" and "Killer Joe," Golson steps into the realms of jazz-funk and disco with this release, reflecting the musical trends of the late 1970s. The title song is a stellar dance groove, holding heavyweight status among underground soul, funk, and jazz aficionados-a true 'rare groove' indeed. Produced by George Butler, whose credentials are no less than impressive, it's no wonder the instrumental hook of this title song has been sampled many times by artists such as Naughty by Nature, Logistics, Leona Lewis, and many others. Everything about this album-music, engineering, mastering-is top-notch, making this somewhat of an audiophile release as well. This is a real hidden gem and well worth seeking out!

When considering the jazz vibraphone giants of the 20th century, seven stand out: Lionel Hampton, Red Norvo, Milt Jackson, Terry Gibbs, Cal Tjader, Gary Burton, and Bobby Hutcherson. Bobby Hutcherson (1941-2016), originally inspired by Milt Jackson, emerged from Los Angeles in the late 1950s. After a stint with the Billy MitchellAl Grey sextet in 1962, Hutcherson moved to New York, becoming the house vibraphonist for the Blue Note label. His foundation in hard bop did not limit him, as he also played in avant-garde sessions with artists like Eric Dolphy and Jackie McLean. On December 11, 1983, the 42-year-old Hutcherson performed seven standards with a stellar group. Pianist George Cables, consistently excellent throughout his career, had been working with Hutcherson since 1977. Bassist Herbie Lewis, a versatile musician, had collaborated with Hutcherson since 1966. Drummer Philly Joe Jones, known for his work with Miles Davis, also contributed to the session. The recording of the Four Seasons album features seven standards, starting with Thelonious Monk's 'I Mean You, ' which showcases each musician. Hutcherson's solo on Cole Porter's 'All Of You' is particularly adventurous. 'Spring Is Here' receives a beautiful interpretation, and 'Star Eyes' is taken uptempo. Hutcherson's introduction on 'If I Were A Bell' is notable, as is Jones's solo. The session spotlights Cables on 'Summertime' and concludes with a vibrant version of 'Autumn Leaves. ' Decades later, the music remains a timeless classic.
