The album, Salvant's first with orchestra, features The Netherlands' Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley. Salvant and the ensemble perform timeless songs newly arranged by composer and bandleader Darcy James Argue. The album's title track, written by Cy Coleman and David Zippel, is available today along with a lyric video, which may be seen here. Salvant tours internationally throughout the summer and fall.

Jeff Parker & ETA IVtet Happy Today - Led by guitarist Jeff Parker, featuring saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, anddrummer Jay Bellerose, the ETA IVtet is a band that grew out of a weekly residency started byParker in 2016 at Northeast Los Angeles venue ETA. Over seven years of holding down that residency, Parker's ETA ensemble evolved from a bandthat played mostly standards into a group known for it's transcendent, long-form (sometimesstretching out for 45 minutes or more) journeys into innovative, often uncharted territories ofgroove-oriented, painterly, polyrhythmic, minimalist and mantric improvised music.
Happy Today, the third album from guitarist/bandleader Jeff Parker's long-running ETA IVtet, was recorded live at Lodge Room in Los Angeles on August 20, 2025. This fresh entry into the IVtet's catalog captures Parker and the band - including drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Anna Butterss, and saxophonist Josh Johnson - on record outside of the now-shuttered Highland Park micro-club ETA for the first time.

Malian balafon player Neba Solo and donso n'goni player Benego Diakite's A Djinn and a Hunter Went Walking-the first in a series of new releases in collaboration with longtime Nonesuch partner Nick Gold, former head of World Circuit Records-features the leading players of their traditional instruments: the marimba-like balafon, or bala, and donso n'goni, a hunter's harp. On the album, co-produced by Gold, Ousmane Haidara, and Sonny Johns, the acoustic instrumentals are complemented by vocals and percussion as well as touches of mellotron, guitar, and strings. The CD version includes a second disc of their original duo performances, unadorned, recorded in a Bamako garden under a mango tree. They started after the sun went down, and crickets can be heard chirping during the quiet moments.

Nonesuch Records releases mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile's Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 2 on November 7, 2025. The two-LP album comprises Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004; Sonata No. 3 in C major, BWV 1005; and Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006. For his second recording of Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas, twelve years after the first volume, Chris Thile opted for a more personal approach to the revered master composer's works. This time, he allowed himself to take liberties with the scores, which he recorded in multiple, somewhat untraditional, locations of personal significance: Reservoir Studios and Tompkins Square Park in New York City; Farrell Recital Hall at Murray State University in Murray, KY; and Blackberry Farm in Walland, TN.
MAKAYA MCCRAVEN / OFF THE RECORD Internationally acclaimed drummer, producer, and sonic collagist Makaya McCraven returns to announce four distinct yet interconnected EPs - Techno Logic, The People's Mixtape, Hidden Out!, and PopUp Shop compiled on a 2xLP and 2xCD physical release titled Off the Record. Together they mark McCraven's first recorded offerings since 2022's In These Times. Built from live recordings, the music is later reshaped by McCraven via extensive editing, overdubs, and post-production at his home studio in Chicago. The source material from each EP is drawn from moments of pure improvisation, recorded live in performance, shaped as much by the room and audience as by the musicians.. Techno Logic features Ben LaMar Gay and Theon Cross, and draws from performances in London (2017), Berlin (2024), and New York (2025), showcasing nearly eight years of developing rapport between the three musicians, starting with their very first session at Worldwide FM's former North London studio. The People's Mixtape has it's foundation in a live recording from Brooklyn's Public Records in January of 2025, where McCraven celebrated the 10 year anniversary of In The Moment with an intentional return to the improvisational language he developed over that album's sessions. For the occasion, McCraven played with bassist Junius Paul and trumpeter Marquis Hill (two musicians who are majorly present on In The Moment), as well as vibraphonist Joel Ross (who has been a regular collaborator of McCraven's since the 2017 sessions for Universal Beings), and synthesist Jeremiah Chiu (marking the first occasion for McCraven to play with the SML co-leader and International Anthem labelmate). Hidden Out! Recalling how he first got to know Smith and his music, which has been a regular part of his repertoire for years, Mehldau said that after years living in New York, he moved to Los Angeles "and there was this wonderful scene of singer-songwriters that was congregating at a club called Largo. That included Elliott but it also included artists like Rufus Wainwright, Fiona Apple. And then other musicians who had been around for a while would come down every Friday night to sit in on a gig that was led by Jon Brion. I played behind Elliott on his own tunes with Jon. It felt to me like a kind of renaissance in songwriting that flourished for a number of years."

Nonesuch Records releases an album comprising the first recordings of Steve Reich's two latest works-Jacob's Ladder (2023) and Traveler's Prayer (2020) -on July 11, 2025. Jacob's Ladder, performed by the New York Philharmonic led by Jaap van Zweden with Synergy Vocals, was made during it's October 2023 world premiere at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. The premiere recording of Traveler's Prayer, performed by Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals, was made at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, also in 2023. The two pieces were first released earlier this year as part of Steve Reich Collected Works, a twenty-seven-disc box set featuring music recorded during the composer's forty years on the label. Jacob's Ladder interprets, and draws text from, the Biblical book of Genesis, 28:12: And he dreamedAnd behold, a ladder set up on the EarthAnd it's top reached HeavenAnd behold, messengers of G-d ascending and descending on it. The composer explains, "Any melodic movement-up, down, or held-can find it's analogy on a ladder. Sometimes one only goes up a few rungs to reach something and then descends, or perhaps climbs higher, pauses, and then descends pausing at each rung on the way down. "There are four short sections-exposition, if you like-on each of the four lines of text then four longer sections elaborating on and developing those first four, " he continues. "What's particularly interesting to me in these much longer sections is that they are mostly instrumental music. The instrumental music interprets the movement of messenger/angels going up, down, or pausing on a ladder (or ladders) between heaven and earth: a musical interpretation without words. "Traveler's Prayer was composed before and during the 2020 pandemic. "The virus shifted the gravity of the words I was setting... three short excerpts from Genesis, Exodus and Psalms, " Reich says. "These excerpts are usually added to the full Traveler's Prayer found in Hebrew prayer books, " he continues. "While these verses can certainly apply to travels by air, car, or boat, they can also be applied to travel from this world to the next. "The first melody is from Biblical Hebrew chant in America and parts of Europe while the second is a more ornate style from Italy... The third melody I composed since, outside of Yemen, there is no existing tradition for chanting Psalms. As to structure, there are extremely free canons throughout.
