Searching for traces of once-admired Nassau court music in European and American libraries made it apparent that, despite large losses, there still survives a corpus of court music, though hard to fully assess due to it's size and geographical scattering. The majority of these autographs and manuscripts are unheard pieces, condemned to two and one-half centuries of oblivion. The 350th birthday of Count Johann Ernst of Nassau-Weilburg (1664-1719) provides an appropriate occasion to let the brilliance of the Nassau court music be heard again. 881488140415 PROL14041.2 27776353 .00 18.99 .24 PROFIL - G HAENSSLER COMPACT DISCS CLASSICAL CHAMBER MUSIC & RECITALS 02/10/2015 https://media.aent-m.com/graphics/items/sdimages/a/500/1/0/5/9/2839501.jpg 1 1 N COOTS / BACH / GIUFFRE / GORDON / OPERA SWING QRT OPERA SWING QRT Let's face it: Christmas can get on your nerves, especially when it's the same procedure year after year. At such a time, even jazz can get on your nerves: shoddy arrangements, monotonous improvisations, and the same timeworn classics you've listened to a thousand times before. What can be done? That's an easy one: you listen to the new Christmas CD by the Opera Swing Jazz Quartet. This is old fashioned, highly refined jazz for connoisseurs played so convincingly that even people who usually abhor this kind of music will just love it. 4014513031372 BMNX313071.2 27775127 .00 24.99 .21 BELLA MUSICA COMPACT DISCS CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS / CHANUKKAH 02/10/2015 https://media.aent-m.com/graphics/items/sdimages/a/500/0/2/5/9/2839520.jpg 23 1 N ZEMLINSKY / BRODSKY QUARTET STRING QUARTETS In this recording of Alexander Zemlinsky's (1871-1942) complete String Quartets, the Brodsky Quartet gives fresh life to the composer's works, 'with a spirit so transformational you felt they were actually improving the world', as reported by the Strad after a recent concert performance. The four string quartets represent a journey through Zemlinsky's musical thought. The Brahmsian, youthful Quartet in A, op. 4 is generously proportioned and less earnest in mood than some earlier works. The Second Quartet, op. 15 echoes the composer's years of emotional crisis. Contrastingly, the Third Quartet, op. 19 appears to be a sarcastic protest against modernism, Zemlinsky exploiting a minimum of material to maximum effect. Having been blacklisted and his music declared 'degenerate', the Fourth Quartet, op. 25 (1936) only achieved it's first public performance in 1967. It deploys a wealth of thematic ideas in a process of continual variation and metamorphosis that follows the outlines of sonata form. The String Quartet in E minor failed to pass it's trial at the Viennese Tonkunstlerverein when first presented in 1893. Not published until 1997, it appears here on disc for the first time. 095115184523 CHN10845.2 27789841 .00 27.99 .30 CHANDOS COMPACT DISCS CLASSICAL CHAMBER MUSIC & RECITALS 02/24/2015 https://media.aent-m.com/graphics/items/sdimages/a/500/2/6/7/0/2840762.jpg 0 2 N BACH,J.S. / ARAME / CALMUS ENSEMBLE / KAMMERCHOR LULLABIES 1-3 Recorded as part of Carus' prizewinning Liederprojekt" series, a charity project produced by Carus and Southwest German Radio that contributes profits to childrens' music education in Europe, this 3 CD set is an extraordinary collection of lullabies from Europa, America, Asia, Africa and Australia with selections that are at once deeply familiar to those that will delight with discovery for both the young and young at heart.
