(13-CD box set) Michel Onfray is one of the greatest contemporary French philosophers. He always refuses honors and medals, and he teaches philosophy in the Normandy technical school. With the conversion of the Roman Empire to Christianity, the multitude of sects claiming Jesus gives way to a state religion, imposed by the sword and unified by the doctrine. For the young Judeo-Christian civilization, time is a conquest. Philosophy places itself at the service of faith to explain, justify and transmit the divine mysteries. In this second volume of Decadence, Michel Onfray allows us to navigate a period often known by the unique prism of church art, and to discover the mechanisms of subjection of bodies and minds implemented by a civilization then expanding. Following Cosmos, philosophy of nature, Decadence proposes a philosophy of history and is part of the great cycle 'Brief encyclopedia of the world' that stops with this latest release. "Decadence is neither a history book nor a manifesto. It's an inner novel."
This is the second volume of Fremeaux's new collection, about the History of French Litteracy. Of the modern novelists, Fyodor Dostoevsky is among the greatest Russian writers of the nineteenth century. In ''Les Carnets du sous-sol'', he tells the story of a reclusive man who, from his basement, observes the world in a low angle. The narrator spits out his words with bitterness, his obstinate refusal of happiness, pours out his anxieties and his hatred towards humanity. Written in 1864, there is a condensed version of the barbaric fury that is the work of the author and the basis of the great novels to come: ''Crimes and Punishments'', ''The Player'', or ''The Brothers Karamazo''. Produced by Maya Heuse of Editions Theeleme, Hubert-Felix Thiefaine, with his constant and solemn expression of emotion and bitterness, succeeds in transmitting to the listener all the melancholy, sincerity and violence of the novel. It depicts all the poetry of this work, which one would describe as a proto-punk, by its disillusionment, it sdisenchanted vision of the world, and which, as the author indicated, was intended as the narrative of a ''generation in survival''.

Agnes Ledig, author of this work, and Coup de Coeur of the women's magazine, has a singular talent: that of mixing the most dramatic episodes with optimism, humor, and tenderness. In this novel where emotion is present on every page, she makes us laugh until we cry and reconciles us to life. This is one of those rare novels that we want to start again just because they are so good!

Catherine ZARCATE is an important name in the revival of story-telling in France. The tale she interprets in this 2-CD set is entitled “Le Fils du vent”. She wrote it and presented it on stage, having worked for over ten years to reach such narrative perfection. In French.
In this set, Luc Ferry tells how the greatest thinkers of antiquity, Plato, Aristotle or the Stoics, took over the legacy of Greek mythology to achieve a magnificent doctrine of wisdom, a secular spirituality that will cross centuries and who still speaks to us today. Essentially, it is a question of showing that the good life lies in the setting in harmony of oneself with the harmony of the world, this harmonious, just, beautiful and good cosmic order which forms in the eyes of the Ancients as a model to follow for the organization of the city. With the thought of Epicurus, sophists and atomists, we also see how a counter-culture, a "counter-philosophy" is being put in place, which already contests the idea of a harmonious cosmos and which, at once, proposes another conception of the good life.
On the day of his thirtieth birthday, Joseph K. was arrested. Accused of a fault he ignores by judges whom he never sees and in accordance with laws that nobody can teach him, he will push a bewildering number of gates to try to unravel the situation. As the trial grows in its life, each open door is a more alienating closure of the world of judicial proceedings, a true source of confinement and claustrophobia. For a year, an empty instruction of events follows its course under the impotent eyes of K., whose lucidity remains derisory and useless in the face of an implacable judicial machine. The trial, a pivotal piece in the work of this genius, renounces the supernatural to evoke the anguish of obsession.
This 4 CD set delivers a selection of Marcel Proust's novel "Some et Gomorrhe" (Sodom and Gomorrah in English) the fourth volume of "A la recherche du temps perdu" ("In Search of Lost Time"). This masterpiece of French literature is read by famous actor Daniel Mesguich. Audiobook in French.
Long regarded as a “popular” writer, Jehan Rictus, an anarchist and poet of modern misery, nevertheless remains one of the most remarkable artists of the late nineteenth century, and the quality of his work is something that his contemporaries certainly envied. It is time now to hear once again the voice of Jehan Rictus. In his poems with libertarian accents, he chastises the bourgeois, his epoch, the “hideousness” of false charity, false reason, and bigotry. The fair and sensitive interpretation of Daniel Mesguich makes it possible to hear the power of these works orally while giving pieces of life to the ‘little people.’
“La Legende de Saint Julien l’Hospitalier is probably one of Flaubert’s most famous novel. Written in 1875, it reveals Flaubert’s objective as a writer: a text shall be a true reflection of the world the writer sees. It is read in this CD by Bruno Cremer. French audiobook.” Claude Colombini-Fremeaux
