Billy Strayhorn

1915–1967. American composer. in the Swing / Big Band tradition.

Strayhorn was Duke Ellington's primary collaborator and arranger; his compositions are among the most sophisticated in the jazz canon. 'Take the A Train' became Ellington's theme song. His lyrical, harmonically rich style defines mid-century jazz romanticism.
