The latest release by the two classically trained brass musicians/composers Aaron Messing and Anni Hochhalter, Recall, Recall, is an overflowing menagerie of sounds and melodies featuring textured injections of trumpet and French horn, with some voice, guitar, drums, and sensory percussion giving the whole a unique sound. Aaron Messing is a composer, arranger, producer, and trumpet player, and Anni Hochhalter is a founding member and French horn player of classical chamber ensemble WindSync. In substance, the album slips from dimension to dimension within and between songs as though traversing the contours of a calabi-yau manifold - heady and quirky like a Terry Gilliam cut-out animation but grounded in a Herman Hesse-esque spirituality. Each song encompasses it's own singular world, tethered to the next by the brass and the unique contours of the voices of Hochhalter and Messing.

A BBC New Generation Artist in 2022-24, violinist Geneva Lewis is also the recipient of a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, a 2022 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and has been Musical America's New Artist of the Month. For her recording debut on Delos, she revels in a high-flying all-American program, accompanied by Gemma New conducting the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Starting with Samuel Barber's neo-Romantic violin Concerto - the notorious finale provides hardly any respite to the soloist - it is followed by the first recording of John Zorn's Partita for the Firebird, a solo violin work in which 'every note burns and demands your entire self' (Geneva's own words), and Philip Glass's Violin Concerto No. 1. Written to please his father, the work is less symphonic than operatic, befitting a composer then in the full flight of operatic composition. Recipient of the prestigious 2021 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, Gemma New conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in both concertos.
As a tenor raised in Northeast Philadelphia, recording an album dedicated to Mario Lanza felt like coming home in the most profound way.' This is how Stephen Costello introduces his second album on Delos, Be My Love. A homage to the great tenor, this selection of songs showcases Lanza's sincerity in his choice of repertoire, his mastery of diction and legato, and the clarion high notes that made him ideally equipped to bring a song to a stirring finish. Indeed, the humble boy from Philadelphia rose to global stardom thanks to his glorious voice and innate charisma. As such, he has been an inspiration to countless singers, even more so for Stephen, who was born in the same city. Songs like 'Be My Love' and 'Without a Song' served as the ultimate secret weapon for the young tenor struggling through his first lessons and auditions. Constantine Orbelian and the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra join in the celebration.
Trio Azura's Storytellers launches the Colburn Collection: an exclusive new recording partnership between Delos and the Colburn School, Los Angeles, whose main design is to be a powerful springboard for the next generation of musicians. Nearly a century separates the works on this album, yet Charles Ives, John Harbison, and Jennifer Higdon share a distinctly American spirit of curiosity and individuality. Their music questions, provokes, implies, jokes, challenges, and explores, always searching for new ways to tell a story. Their singular compositional voices are realized in these performances by Trio Azura, praised by Gramophone for their 'intelligence and imagination' and 'profound emotion.' Ensemble-in-Residence at Colburn, Trio Azura was named the winner of the 2025 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and the organization's first Ensemble-in-Residence, as well as the Grand Prize winner of the 2024 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Trio Azura consists of Canadian violinist Duncan McDougall, South Korean cellist Yejin Hong, and Chinese pianist Yanfeng (Tony) Bai.
The San Diego Symphony Orchestra is one of the United States' leading orchestras. Led by Music and Artistic Director Rafael Payare, the Orchestra has experienced an explosive artistic expansion, transforming it's repertoire and forging a distinctive sound. The recent renovation of Jacobs Music Center - a premier concert hall and architectural landmark - now allows that artistry to be heard in all it's power, color, and nuance. Launching a new collaboration with Delos, the musicians have recorded live at Jacobs Music Center Shostakovich's monumental Symphony No. 7. Known as the 'Leningrad' - the symphony was composed during the notorious and brutal siege of the city - the work is emotionally and historically supercharged. As the first recording captured in the hall's newly renovated acoustics, it sets the tone for an exciting new partnership!
Following the huge success of it's first Delos recording ('hallmark powdery blend and intonation so pure' - The New York Times), the GRAMMY Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer, under the leadership of Music Director Tim Keeler, is now turning to fourteenth-century's most celebrated composer Guillaume de Machaut. Although born in obscurity around 1300, Guillaume was to enjoy a stellar career that saw him hold various prestigious positions, including at the Cathedral of Reims. This album presents music from both facets of the composer's life, which today we might see as incompatible. With the Messe de Nostre Dame, we see Machaut the devout cleric of a major cathedral. Conversely, songs such as Douce dame jolie and Riches d'amour, among others, show Machaut the courtly poet-composer who sings of the emotional experience of secular love for his noble patrons.
Cellist Julian Schwarz makes his debut on Delos with a trailblazing album featuring Arthur Foote's complete cello works, including the world premiere commercial recording of his cello concerto. As the only composer of the Boston Six to have been entirely trained in the United States, Arthur Foote could be viewed as the United States' first homegrown talent. Albeit largely, and inexplicably, unperformed and undercelebrated, his refined sense of melody and lush harmonic language are bewitching; he produced a wealth of music for cello and piano which is here performed by GRAMMY-nominated cellist Julian Schwarz, pianist and partner Marika Bournaki, and the internationally acclaimed conductor Gerard Schwarz with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Remastered masterworks by Aaron Copland, Roy Harris, and John Philip Sousa meet in this specially priced commemorative edition from the Great American Label. In 2026, the USA marks 250 years since the signing of its Declaration of Independence – and there is no better occasion to celebrate the music that has shaped, reflected, and animated the nation’s soul. This 3-album collection of widely varying recordings is an apt showcase for the full complexity of America's heritage – the many cultures and interwoven threads of history that have made America what it is today. From the bold patriotic marches of John Philip Sousa in the late 19th century, to James Earl Jones narrating Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait – a work born of America’s resolve against fascism in World War II – to the soaring hymn of America the Beautiful, the works on these recordings weave a musical tapestry that captures the enduring promise of the American Dream across two and a half centuries.

This program is designed to help listeners find a 'quiet time' of non-stressful, contemplative relaxation. Its selection of short, melodic pieces also serves as an ideal introduction to the world of classical music. 'A splendid disc, to be treasured by young and old,' - American Record Guide 'The perfect gift among recordings for introducing a child to the intimacies and universality of music.' - Fanfare 'The world's loveliest piano music, beautifully programmed to help people of all ages find an inner core of tranquillity.' - Keynote The program of Perchance to Dream moves from simple, lyrical pieces, many written for beginning pianists, to more profound works like the Adagio cantabile of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata and Brahms' Intermezzo Op. 117, No. 1. In our high-tech, computerized, accelerating age, the need for a time of relaxation - a period to reflect, or simply to experience a sense of calm - is more important than ever. Work and other responsibilities have a way of overtaking more elemental pleasures - like time spent with loved ones, or in solitude. Yet finding this 'quiet time' need not be difficult, and it is partly with this in mind that this musical program is offered. The selections chosen here - accessible, melodious pieces by great composers - speak to all ages. For children, they may form a gateway to a world not yet explored - that of concert music. For their elders, they may generate fond recollections, like old friends who have not lost their power to inspire or comfort. They also may act as a bond between parents and children, providing a peaceful background for a time of intimacy, storytelling, and shared experience. - Steven C. Smith (from the booklet notes)
