Each solo piano concert had it's own distinct character, and in Bordeaux, the lyrical impulse is brought to the fore. In this improvised suite, many quiet discoveries are made. There is a freshness to the music, a feeling of intimate communication. Reviewing the performance, the French press spoke of hints of the Koln concert in the flow of things, and the beguiling beauty of extended sections of the Bordeaux concert.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Keith Jarrett's account of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Wurttemberg Sonatas is a revelation. "I'd heard the sonatas played by harpsichordists, and felt there was room for a piano version," says Jarrett today. This outstanding recording, made in 1994 and previously unreleased, finds the pianist attuned to the expressive implications of the sonatas in every moment. The younger Bach's idiosyncrasies: the gentle playfulness of the music, the fondness for subtle and sudden tempo shifts, the extraordinary, rippling invention... all of this is wonderfully delivered. The fluidity of the whole performance has a quality that perhaps could be conveyed only by an artist of great improvisational skills. In Jarrett's hands, CPE's exploration of new compositional forms retains the freshness of discovery. With Seeing, Tord Gustavsen begins an intricate new chapter in his series of acclaimed trio recordings, initiated in 2003 with Changing Places - an album that is today considered a classic. "The new recording with it's compact, concentrated song forms, reflects my personal development as I get older, going for the essentials in life and music," says the Norwegian pianist. Jakob Bro - "Taking Turns" / Taking Turns, recorded in New York's Avatar Studio in 2014, finds Danish guitarist Jakob Bro joined by a multi- generational cast of improvisers, highly distinctive players all. Lee Konitz, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran and Thomas Morgan lend their energies to a session that bypasses conventions of the "all-star" band and puts the emphasis on teamwork. Arild Andersen - "Landloper" / Arild Andersen, one of the most widely acclaimed bassists in jazz, presents his first solo album. Stephan Micus - "To the Rising Moon" To the Rising Moon is Stephan Micus' 26th solo album for ECM. It features instruments from Colombia, India, Xinjiang (China), Bavaria, Cambodia, Egypt and Borneo, but taking center stage is the Colombian tiple, slightly smaller than an acoustic guitar. The sunny plucked sound of the tiples alternates with darker bowed strings, which bring a more meditative mood. Benjamin Lackner -"Spindrift" Back with a newly formed quintet, the German pianist Benjamin Lackner presents a different and exciting side of his composer approach. Subtle fanfares meet contemplative lyricism in a program of originals that always puts melody and ensemble chemistry first. Saxophone and trumpet take the lead, forming their own little ensemble section, and contribute elegantly interwoven lines and striking solos to an especially harmonious group sound and a tuneful set of songs. Vinyl LP pressing. After acclaimed ECM recordings with the Maciej Obara Quartet, Polish pianist Dominik Wania delivers solo album, Lonely Shadows. Wania's sensitivity to touch, tone and texture is informed by his classical background and his instincts of a great improviser, acutely focused on the unfolding details in the responsive interior of the Auditorio Stelio Molo studio. 2019 release. Like their acclaimed ECM release Small Town of 2017 which The Guardian called "wistful and mesmerizing... tonally ingenious and haunting" Epistrophy by guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan was recorded at New York City's Village Vanguard. The album once again captures the rare empathy these two players achieve together in this intimate environment. There are further poetic takes on pieces from the duo's beloved Americana songbook ("All in Fun," "Red River Valley," "Save the Last Dance for Me"), as well as another intense version of a composition by Paul Motian ("Mumbo Jumbo"), an artist whom both the guitarist and bassist knew well. Frisell and Morgan communicate the essence of Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life" and the Frank Sinatra hit "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning," so much so that the famous words seem to hang in the air even without a singer. At the center of the album is a pair of pieces by Thelonious Monk: the funky, angular "Epistrophy" and the ruminative ballad "Pannonica." And as with "Goldfinger" on Small Town, Frisell and Morgan offer a glowing duo interpretation of a melody-rich John Barry title tune from a James Bond film "You Only Live Twice."

Release of La Fenice is timely: The 62nd International Festival of Contemporary Music of the Biennale di Venezia has honored Keith Jarrett with it's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. It's the first time that a jazz musician has received this award, which has previously been given to contemporary composers including, in recent decades, Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Gyorgy Kurtag, Helmut Lachenmann, Sofia Gubaidulina and Steve Reich.

Recorded at his home studio in 1986, NO END illuminates hitherto undocumented aspects of Keith Jarretts music. He is heard here on electric guitars, electric bass, drums and percussion, overdubbing tribal dances of his own devising.
