It's a chance encounter between three personalities and their distinct universes that sparked the origin of this magical music. A meeting between jazz, world music and fusion. The prospect of the perfect world where listening and mutual respect lie at it's heart. Like an insidious and enchanting philter, Macondo's music tends to make you lose all sense of time and space.
All the compositions on this album are original works, created during a period of personal growth and artistic exploration. Each piece represents a chapter in a larger story - one that reflects not only my journey as a musician but also my evolving understanding of life, purpose, and meaning. The opening track, "Wu Wei," sets the tone. A central concept in Taoist philosophy, Wu Wei translates to "non-action" - not inaction, but effortless action, or moving with the flow of life rather than against it. As a musician, this idea resonates deeply: to be in harmony with your surroundings, to create without forcing, to live and express from a place of presence. "One" speaks to the longing for unity in a divided world. Despite conflict, disagreement, and disconnection, there is always a deeper thread that binds us together - a shared humanity that transcends our differences. "Home" represents the need for belonging, safety, and grounding. For some, home is a physical place; for others, it's something they must find or create. But for all of us, the feeling of home is essential to live a fulfilled life. "Reflections in the Water" is an introspective piece - a reminder of where we come from and who we are at our core. Influenced by classical and impressionistic traditions, it pays homage to the great composers who have shaped music history and continue to inspire me. "Seven Virtues, Seven Sins" explores the dualities of human nature - the push and pull between good and evil, right and wrong, light and shadow. It's a reflection on the moral questions we all face and the deeper quest for inner truth and balance. In "Samsara," the cyclic nature of existence is made audible: life, death, and rebirth - endlessly repeating. It reminds us that every end carries the seed of a new beginning. "Blues for Sadako" is a tribute to Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who became a symbol of peace after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. Her story, and the thousands of paper cranes she folded, speak of hope, remembrance, and the resilience of the human spirit. This piece is dedicated to her and to all victims of war. The final track, "Healing," is a hymn for humanity. In times of pain and turmoil, sometimes what the world needs most is a moment of collective healing - a return to compassion, empathy, and wholeness. Throughout this album, I've tried to express something honest - something that reflects the complexity of being alive. We live in a world full of goals, distractions, and expectations. Often, we chase success or run from discomfort, forgetting to be present in the moment. But life is not a race to the finish line. It is a process of becoming, of unfolding - just like a flower grows, slowly and naturally, in it's own time. You cannot force growth. You cannot force mastery. The moment you think you've arrived, life will humble you. There is no final destination - only the ongoing path. Obstacles will come. Resistance will arise. But perhaps the key is not to fight or flee, but to accept - to let go, and to allow life to unfold. This is the essence of Wu Wei. To move in harmony with the world, to follow your inner voice, to grow in all directions like a tree, to live fully in the present - this is not just a philosophy, but a way of life. BASta! Is the solo project of double bass player and composer Joris Vanvinckenroye, in which he explores and pushes the limits of the double bass. In this project, using looping and effect pedals, Joris creates an almost orchestral sound, using the full range of his instrument - from the deepest basses to the highest notes. These layered compositions weave complex rhythms and melodies into a rich and compelling soundscape.

Human Vibe is the sound of three musicians whose shared understanding runs deeper than geography. Pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff, bassist Jasper Somsen, and drummer Carsten Lindholm come from three different countries, yet their friendship and musical intuition make them feel like lifelong companions. In this trio, a glance, a breath, or a single musical gesture is enough to set the group into fluid, unified motion. A Trio Shaped by Conversation and Connection For their second album together, the trio reunited in the Netherlands, where long conversations over lunches and dinners flowed directly into their creative process. Out of these moments came the title Human Vibe-a phrase that perfectly captures the essence of their collaboration: three individuals, each with his own artistic pulse, meeting in a shared space where honesty, curiosity, and joy guide the music. Their performances embody the same spirit. They speak openly with audiences, share stories, and create an environment where listeners feel personally connected to the unfolding music. The album was recorded at Studio 2 in Hilversum, the Netherlands' oldest radio studio and a place rich with musical history. Photographs of legendary jazz artists still hang on the walls, creating an atmosphere steeped in the past. SPIN is the 9th release of the working band RONIN since it's foundation in 2001. Since the last release AWASE (ECM 2018) the band has developed the repertoire continuously further. SPIN shows the phase in which the band is now: looking back and forward at the same time. The RONIN rhythm culture based on pattern, cycle and groove developments and refined beats is still presented and combined with playfulness and the consciousness for freedom within the clear structures.
Award-winning Vibraphonist Lewis Wright returns to Signum following the success of his recording 'Duets' in 2018, with a selection of new compositions this time performed with Matt Brewer (Double-Bass) and Marcus Gilmore (Drums). Floð og Fjara is Gulli Gudmundsson's new project. The Icelandic bassist has been a cornerstone of the Dutch jazz scene for many years. His new trio has a chamber music-inspired setup. When Producer Nils Winther heard for the first time Kevin Hays at Ron McClure1990 session for SCCD 31279 “Never Forget”, he knew immediately he found an exceptional talent. Hays cut his first leader album for the label three months after the McClure date at the age of 22.
His second leader album Ugly Beauty (originally released in 1992) returns here in a stunning 24bit/96kHz remaster as G1297, reaffirming its place as a landmark in the pianist’s early career. Recorded with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Williams, the album marked Hays’s first trio outing—an ensemble format that would become central to his artistic identity. The program blends jazz standards with Hays’s original The Well, showcasing his lyrical touch, harmonic depth, and rhythmic drive. The session captures Hays’s youthful brilliance while foreshadowing the maturity and originality that define his later work. More than three decades on, Ugly Beauty remains fresh, vital, and deeply engaging—a timeless document of three master musicians in inspired dialogue.

A Timeless Form, Reimagined for Today With Ya Man Itha, Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich brings to life an album she has carried in her heart for decades. It is a deeply personal tribute to the late Egyptian composer Fouad Abdel Majeed, whose music shaped her artistic voice from an early age. In this recording, Rima revisits ten of Abdel Majeed's Muwashahat-classical Arabic vocal compositions often set to poetry and marked by intricate rhythms and modes-and places them in dialogue with the colors and sensibilities of French chanson. At first glance, chanson may seem far removed from the Arabic Muwashah, yet both traditions share a deep commitment to poetic expression, lyrical nuance, and the marriage of words and harmony. This cross-cultural resonance became the spark for the ensemble's refined arrangements, created by Maarten Ornstein, Tony Overwater, and Juan Rodriguez.
Voyage in time (a suite in nine movements) is conceived in the likeness of the suites of dances typical of the Baroque era. Some titles (Minuet, Courante, Pavane) may surprise the listener who associates our names with Jazz music. It is certainly true that our three previous albums were all Jazz albums. However, this fourth encounter - our second album for Challenge Records, after Common View (2020) - is a completely different recording, both in terms of line-up and material. The movements, composed by Jasper and arranged together during our recording session, reflect our shared love of classical music and combine classical forms with a very open improvisational approach. The result is a sort of journey back and forth between the musical languages of our time and of times past. A very special Voyage In Time, in fact, in which you are all invited to take part.

NY’s venerable veteran bassist Ron McClure’s new release is a case of “Lost and Found”. The recording was made 32 years ago at Manhattan’s upper Eastside nightclub Danshaku (Baron in Japanese). McClure was hired to play a gig and formed a trio with pianist Don Friedman (1925-2016) and guitarist Vic Juris (1953-2019). The gig was privately recorded but the tape was lost. Long story short, the missing tape was found last year in a NY apartment and its sound has been restored meticulously for us to experience a fabulous night of NY jazz scene three decades ago.

Norwegian pianist/composer Jan Gunnar Hoff, Dutch bass player/composer Jasper Somsen and Danish drummer/composer Carsten Lindholm made this step in 2023 and brought their individual voices together for some concerts that year. Quickly it turned out that this was more than just three musicians performing together; the trio very quickly became an ensemble playing jazz with a bit of US jazz tradition mixed with a European classical sensibility; immediately their individual sounds became one voice.
After their first successful duo album Crescent where pianist Atzko Kohashi and bassist Tony Overwater celebrated the John Coltrane album Crescent, they now recorded a new album in celebration of drummers. They selected 8 compositions by drummers and added three songs dedicated to drummers.

Their first concert in the Netherlands was held on 26 February in the legendary Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam. The concert inaugurated a triumphant career in Europe. It announced, loud and clear, the communicative enthusiasm that was the lasting hallmark of these four exceptional musicians.

It all started by chance, thanks to the friendship that links me to Joe Farnsworth, the king of swing, caused by a situation that we never wanted or imagined we would have to face during the lockdown. After an exchange of music and emails, the much desired project came true and was realized in the most important jazz recording studio in the world, the Rudy Van Gelder Studio. The common denominator for the songs is love and the sensations experienced during that forced isolation, being alone in the house, uncertainties, the desire to overcome everything through love. I am particularly attached to the only Italian song that I contributed, written by an extraordinary musician and friend, Mario Rosini, a song whose meaning is very close to my father. The pieces we have chosen resonate beautifully thanks to the piano touch of Kenny Barron, the deep sound of Peter Washington, the poignant notes of Vince Herring and the pressing rhythm of Joe Farnsworth. The concept of “Jasper Somsen Invites ...” is typical in the world of Jazz music. I just called some of my colleagues and asked if they would like to perform with me in a duo, trio or quartet. Being my guests of honour, I’d let my invitees decide our repertoire. On 30 March 2023, I invited the Metropole Orchestra’s alto saxophone player Paul van der Feen and master pianist Bert van den Brink. We had so much fun during the sound-check that we decided to record the concert. The recordings turned out to be a lucky shot in the dark. Paul, Bert and I instantly agreed and selected the best tracks for an album. The music on this album perfectly reflects the same spontaneity as many other concerts of that series: live music, up-close and personal, for a wonderful audience.
GingerBlackGinger, the daring and authentic project centered around Belgian double bass player Yannick Peeters, has entered a new chapter. They are now joined by American avant-garde alto saxophonist Tim Berne. Their new album, titled Smalltalk Code, will be released in February 2026 by Challenge Records (NL). "Tim is a hero of mine, a great example when it comes to music composition. I didn't even dare ask him to join at first. This project is going to be unique; I don't know of many bands with two alto saxophones. I'm excited to see the dynamic form between Tim and Frans Van Isacker. Tim has such a strong personality, he has a great impact on our sound.
