Nikolaus Harnoncourt's relationship with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was one of the most transformative partnerships in modern orchestral history, lasting 38 years and totalling 276 concerts. What made the partnership unique was the mutual respect between the maestro and the ensemble. While many traditional orchestras initially resisted Harnoncourt's strict adherence to historical scores, the Concertgebouw musicians embraced his intellectual rigor. Over several decades, they developed a distinctive "Amsterdam style" of performing the First Viennese School - Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven - combining the orchestra's legendary warmth with Harnoncourt's sharp, dramatic energy. The recorded legacy of this collaboration remains a cornerstone of the classical catalog. Their famous cycles of Mozart and Haydn symphonies were highly acclaimed, as was their profound interpretation of Schubert's complete symphonic works, which continue to be benchmarks for critics and collectors alike. The box also includes the famous Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy (Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and Cosi fan tutte), starring Thomas Hampson, works by Bruckner, Johann Strauss and Brahms, as well as four albums by Dvorak (his major symphonies and his piano concerto)

Aleksander Debicz - pianist, composer, arranger, and musical director - is one of the most versatile and innovative artists on the Polish music scene. He is the creator and performer of an original style he himself describes as 'cinematic classical' - a movement that combines the language of classical music with the narrative nature of film music and the space of improvisation. 'I chose to shape these new compositions as a cycle of piano miniatures, referring to a classical tradition. I therefore treat the dream not only as a theme, but also as a form - an equivalent of the Romantic prelude. 12 Dreams is conceived as a complete cycle, yet I also enjoy performing individual dreams as independent pieces.' - Aleksander Debicz

Toward the Sea brings together three works for flute and guitar which explore memory, place and transformation. EMI Ferguson and Michael Poll trace a journey from the dance halls of Buenos Aires in Astor Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango, through the luminous stillness of Elizabeth Ogonek's Altair, to the meditative sound world of Toru Takemitsu's Toward the Sea. Recorded at the Stone Church in rural Massachusetts, the program reflects the duo's artistic partnership, which began through online collaborations during the pandemic before developing into live performances across the United States. Their own arrangement of Ogonek's Altair sits naturally between two landmark works, highlighting the continuing vitality of the flute and guitar repertoire. Ferguson, an Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, and Poll, equally active as a guitarist and conductor, approach this repertoire as equal musical partners, allowing the distinctive voices of flute and guitar to emerge across music that ranges from Piazzolla's rhythmic vitality to Takemitsu's suspended, atmospheric sound world.

Deutsche Grammophon presents The Poem of Life, a new album by composer, pianist, and producer Yu-Peng Chen. With this release, Chen turns to a more personal project: a symphonic suite for piano and orchestra in 12 movements, exploring different stages of life with a focus on reflection, expression and storytelling. This marks a new direction in his work, bringing together his experience in game music with a more intimate, concert-focused approach. Conceived as a reflective exploration of universal human experience, The Poem of Life traces an emotional and spiritual arc from birth to farewell. Through lyrical melodies and symphonic arrangements, Chen evokes the wonder of childhood, the trials of adulthood, and the serenity of later years - culminating in the final moments of life.

The album "Ceremony" unites three modern masterpieces for flute and orchestra: Sergei Prokofiev: "Sonata for Flute & Orchestra in D Major, Op. 94" (transcribed by Stephan Koncz), Christopher Rouse: "Flute Concerto," and Toshio Hosokawa: "Ceremony for Flute and Orchestra" (dedicated to Emmanuel Pahud, who premiered the work in 2022 alongside the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich and Paavo Jarvi). Together, these works form a virtuoso, highly atmospheric landscape defined by deeply contemplative movements. Emmanuel Pahud is one of the few living flautists who can effortlessly bridge multiple genres, gliding seamlessly from the cinematic, historical weight of Prokofiev to the avant-garde spiritualism of Hosokawa and finally to the devastating, structural eulogy of Rouse. It is a testament to the fact that all great music, in it's boundless imagination, ultimately tells a deeply human story.

Vincent Peirani and Francois Salque have invited Villa-Lobos, Mendelssohn, Brad Mehldau, Peteris Vasks, Samuel Strouk and Vincent Le Quang to a jam session with the great Cantor: a poetical, virtuosic program born of the duo's two decades of musical partnership.

Acclaimed for their expressive intensity and commitment, these performances of Beethoven's String Quartets from Cuarteto Casals reveal all the modernity, freedom and humanity of this absolute peak of the repertoire. This 7 CD complete edition collects all of the recordings made between 2017 and 2020. To quote Gramophone magazine: 'The Casals present a compelling yet familiar picture of Beethoven, generating tension and taking a forensic approach to detail in the manner of a modern police procedural. '

Nikki and Timothy Chooi are brothers, both Queen Elisabeth Competition laureates, and two of the most internationally active violinists of their generation. Double is their debut recording together: a program of works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Moszkowski, Leclair, Sarasate, and Dvorak for two violins and piano, one of the lesser-documented formations in the chamber music canon. Joined by pianist Eunice Kim, the album spans three centuries of repertoire written for this combination. Between them, the Chooi brothers have performed at Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw, and Suntory Hall, held the concertmaster chair at the Metropolitan Opera, and hold current positions with the Wiener Concert-Verein, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Ottawa. The Chooi brothers are not conventional soloists in any sense - they learned music in the same room, and their work together reflects a shared musical vocabulary built over decades. Timothy performs the 1714 "Dolphin" Stradivarius, once played by Jascha Heifetz, while Nikki performs a 1713 Stradivarius - these two extraordinary instruments, made within a year of each other, lend the duo a unity of color rarely heard in recordings of this repertoire.

Now in a complete edition: the five Piano Concertos that represent twenty years of Beethoven's creative effort, and to crown the set, the Choral Fantasy, an early version of the Ode to Joy. On period instruments Kristian Bezuidenhout and the Freiburger Barockorchester, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, rebalance the forces and timbres to restore all the daring that must surely have stunned the works' first audiences.

Chout - a savage farce - is one of Prokofiev's most unbridled, riotous orchestral pieces, crafted with mercurial inventiveness, it's abrasive rhythms and brilliant colours pervaded by a sarcastic, dark humour. At the head of the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Stanislav Kochanovsky here presents the rarely-recorded original full-length ballet. It's companion piece, the Classical Symphony, offers a piquant counterpoint: beneath it's ostensible Haydnesque elegance it exudes Prokofiev's irony and his quirky penchant for displacement.

Green Shadows presents a portrait of British composer Richard Pantcheff, performed by the London Choral Sinfonia under Michael Waldron, joined by acclaimed violinist Jack Liebeck, narrator Alexander Armstrong, and a distinguished cast of soloists. Inspired by the musical and literary world of Ralph Vaughan Williams while remaining unmistakably individual in voice, Pantcheff's music combines rich lyricism, pastoral colour and emotional depth with a thoroughly contemporary perspective. The program ranges from the reflective title work Green Shadows Fall and the intimate A Prayer for the King's Majesty to the virtuosic Fantasia on Yorkshire Folk Tunes and the elegant Spring Suite for violin and string orchestra, both featuring Jack Liebeck, alongside the radiant Service of Holy Communion, chamber works for oboe, and the evocative narrated concert piece On Hearing the Oxford Bells at Eventide. Following three acclaimed recordings devoted to Pantcheff's music, Green Shadows offers a fresh perspective on one of Britain's most distinctive contemporary composers, performed by the ensemble hailed by Gramophone Magazine as "fast becoming the go-to champions for contemporary British choral music."

This is how I want these Nocturnes to appear before you - like a memory, a dream, or a vision, writes Pavel Kolesnikov. Nurtured since childhood by a deeply personal bond with Chopin, he imagines each piece as a secret world, inhabited by colors, silences, and internal echoes. This is his first album for harmonia mundi: intimately personal, and hauntingly spellbinding.
