Ruperto Chapí was a leading Spanish composer of zarzuela (Spanish operetta), highly regarded in the Spanish-speaking world but little known internationally. His string quartets show a serious chamber music side alongside his popular theatrical works.
Signature works: La revoltosa, El rey que rabió, La tempestad, El tambor de granaderos, Las hijas del Zebedeo.
