HAVIN A PARTY
SEPIA RECORDINGS
CD
$13.99
Jul 10, 2012
This CD consists of two Hoagy Carmichael albums from the late 1950s making their CD debut, 'Hoagy Carmichael's Havin' a Party' and 'Ole Buttermilk Sky'. While composer Hoagy Carmichael holds the record for the most recorded love song of all time, "Stardust", he also made numerous recordings himself of which some achieved hit status. The two albums featured on this CD were recorded in the late 1950s and were some of the last commercial recordings he made. The first album, "Havin' a Party" is aimed at the children's market where he sings some of his best old and new songs for the young and old. The collection on the second album, "Ole Buttermilk Sky" shines with several never-before-recorded originals combined with some of his earlier hits that Carmichael revisits with a more up-to-date arrangement and backing. The CD ends with two very unusual gems previously only to be found on a 45 single release, including the Johnny Cash classic, "I Walk the Line".

The first compilation devoted to Mario Lanza's Neapolitan and Italian song recordings, representing the tenor at his interpretative peak in the genre! This collection comprises not only the highlights of his Mario! And Caruso Favorites albums, but the best of his earlier recordings of Neapolitan and Italian songs. It also includes a newly discovered rendition of "Mattinata." Bonus tracks aside, the recordings are arranged chronologically, providing fascinating evidence of the rapid darkening of Lanza's timbre during his final years, as his voice changed from a lirico spinto to a richer, pure spinto.

This CD combines the 1962 LP 'Teresa Brewer's Greatest Hits', an album of stereo re-recordings of her Top Ten hits from the 1950s, and 'Don't Mess with Tess', an album of standards, all on CD for the first time. Teresa Brewer was a popular artist of the 1950s and 1960s who sold millions of records. Of the eight Top Ten hits Teresa scored in the 1950s including two chart-toppers ("Music, Music, Music" and "Till I Waltz Again with You") all were recorded in mono. She re-recorded seven in stereo for her "Greatest Hits" album in 1962 and amazingly that album has never been on CD until now. Also featured on this CD is 'Don't Mess with Tess', another stereo album making it's CD debut in which Teresa sings standards. From Julie London, the smoky-voiced vocalist, a CD containing 24 tracks from her singles that have never appeared on any of her many LPs. One of the most distinctive pop singers of the 1950s, (between 1955 and 1957, Billboard proclaimed London the most popular female vocalist around) Julie London enjoyed a varied career that included releasing thirty-two albums and appearing on television and film. In this tribute to London's varied singing career, Sepia Records presents twenty-four tracks from her single releases from the 1950s and early 1960s, including her earliest known recordings from 1955 - recordings that have almost disappeared between the cracks but show the expressive and technical range of this unique artist.
