The second volume of Inside Chicago series is extracted from a three-night live concert from the famous Jazz Showcase club at the Blackstone Hotel in downtown Chicago in February 1995. The music not only illustrates the recent history of strong Chicago jazz but also gives us the rare opportunity of enjoying the otherwise available-only-for-the-lucky-locals legends Von Freeman and Brad Goode’s exciting performance.

Between 1992 and 1998, trumpeter Brad Goode recorded many of the club dates he played in Chicago. Most of these featured the eminent tenor saxophonist Von Freeman with Brad, other guest soloists and various rhythm sections. Scores and scores of hours of potent music were documented and from that vast "live" archive Mr Goode and SteepleChase producer Nils Winther have selected the cream for this series of "Inside Chicago" jazz CDs of which thi s is the 4th volume.

Chicago’s grand tenor man Earle Lavon "Von" Freeman Sr. (October 3, 1923 – August 11, 2012) was a revered and most loved elder of the jazz scene in the Windy City. Von has been on producer Nils Winther’s top priority list of the musicians he wanted to record. The dream came true in the late spring of 1992, when Von was 72. Von’s powerful tenor is tastefully supported by his trusted rhythm section of Jodie Christian (piano), Eddie De Haas bass) and Wilbur Campbell (drums).. “This is an excellent introduction to the Chicago style of tenor playing and to four extremely creative musicians at their peaks.” (Cadence)
