Transcription is the genre most generously represented in Godowsky's compositional output, and the one for which he is best known; he made piano transcriptions (and �tudes), of various kinds, from works by Bach, Schubert, Chopin, and others. But he also left another body of works whose originality and coherence continue to surprise: his piano paraphrases. This album features virtuosic re-compositions by several 19th and 20th century composers, some quite faithful to the originals, others deviating drastically from their sources.
