Celebrating the 90th birthday of Helmut Lachenmann, one of the most visionary composers of our time, this landmark release brings together for the first time the complete solo piano works in a single edition. Pianist Jonas Olsson, long associated with Lachenmann's music, offers an authoritative and deeply insightful interpretation that captures the full range of the composer's radical, tactile sound world-music that redefines what the piano can express. Produced by pianist and composer Miharu Ogura, the recording stands as a new reference for Lachenmann's piano music. The accompanying bilingual booklet features illuminating notes by Paul Griffiths, a selection of Lachenmann's own diagrams, and a substantial interview in German between the composer and Olsson, providing an invaluable glimpse into his creative mind. Since his studies with Hans Plsson in Gothenburg and Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Cologne, Jonas Olsson has built an international career as a champion of 20th- and 21st-century repertoire. He has performed at major festivals including Lucerne-appearing as soloist in Boulez's Rpons and Sur Incises under the composer's direction-as well as in Des canyons aux toiles by Messiaen. His performances of Boulez's complete piano sonatas at the 2015 Klang Festival and his 2016 Aldeburgh portrait concert of Rebecca Saunders further attest to his rare commitment and precision. Helmut Lachenmann (b. 1935, Stuttgart) studied with Luigi Nono and has influenced generations through his teaching and writings. His groundbreaking approach to instrumental sound has earned him many of the world's highest musical honors, including the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize and the Leone d'Oro of the Venice Biennale. Released to coincide with Lachenmann's 90th birthday, this album is both a tribute and a milestone-a definitive portrait of a composer who continues to expand the very idea of music.
