In-a-gadda-da-vida

Following his highly acclaimed album Glow SCCD 31997 with David Friedman, Philadelphia-based vibraphonist Tony Miceli presents here a new release that balances originals, jazz classics and an audacious reimagining of Iron Butterfly's psychedelic anthem. Joined by guitarist Elijah Cole, bassist Madison Rast and drummer Dan Monaghan - all fixtures of the Philly scene - Miceli leads the quartet featuring vibraphone-guitar pairing that gives luminous airy quality to the session. The title track, stripped to it's harmonic essence, channels a vivid energy that reminds us of Miceli's earlier work reinventing rock for jazz audiences. Throughout, Miceli offers a warm and deeply personal musical statement that affirms his evolving voice and his role as a mentor shaping Philadelphia's next generation. ' a delightful and highly recommended release.' (Andy Hamilton - Downbeat on SCCD 31997 Glow)
