About
This album presents a selection of Suppé rarities and classics. Poet and Peasant and Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna are two popular examples of Suppé’s mastery. The previously unrecorded Fantasia Symphonica was rediscovered in Viennese archives by Ola Rudner who conducts the Tonkünstler-Orchester on these recordings. Includes two world premiere recordings.
Critic reviews
“Thanks to Naxos, we’ve gotten to explore some rediscovered works of Suppé’s prolific output in the last few years, and this world premiere recording of his Fantasia Sinfonica, a symphony in all but name, may be the most stunning so far.”
Fanfare, Want list, November 2024
“…this is one of the great musical finds in the history of German symphonic music. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful work and a joy to discover and something that…in under normal circumstances, you’d have to wait for your local orchestra to do it.”
