The romantic comedy Singles, in part a homage to director Cameron Crowe's hometown of Seattle, was released at exactly the right time (summer 1992). Nirvana's Nevermind had symbolically knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the album charts at the beginning of the year, and the underground buzz about Seattle bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam was beginning to find it's way past circles of indie aficionados and open-minded hard rock fans and into the mainstream. Singles helped crystallize the idea of the "Seattle scene" in the mainstream public's mind, and it was also one of the first big-selling '90s movie soundtracks (it went platinum and reached the Top Ten) to feature largely new work from contemporary artists. The soundtrack's strength was the way it was so firmly rooted in place - where future soundtrack extravaganzas simply contrived to gather as many big-name acts as possible, Singles focused specifically on Seattle-area music (quite logically, given the film's plot and setting), which gave the album the feel of a cohesive document... -Steve Huey.

The film is inspired by the troll dolls which became popular in the 1970s. The soundtrack is produced primarily by Justin Timberlake, along with Max Martin and Shellback as additional producers. The soundtrack's first single, "Can't Stop The Feeling!" was written and produced by Justin Timberlake, Max Martin and Shellback specifically for the film and is the first time Timberlake has written and produced with the two Grammy Award winners. The film was Directed by Mike Mitchell (Antz, Shrek Forever After and Kung Fu Panda 3) and co-directed by Walt Dohrn (Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Penguins of Madagascar).

The movie follows an American illustrator in the depths of personal crisis who, after the death of his fiancee, runs out of medication while wandering the isolated Icelandic countryside. His tenuous hold on reality begins to falter, as he is unsure if his compulsions are related to his disorder or if he's being forced to unlock ancient secrets. The score to Spell was composed by Patrick Stump, best known as one of the founding members of the rock band Fall Out Boy. With Spell, Stump has conjured a beautiful soundscape that reverberates with grief and mysticism, as astral and timeless as Icelandic tundras.

Sony Music announces the release of THE FRONT RUNNER (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). The album features a score of original music by composer Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, 500 Days of Summer), who most recently announced his signing to Sony Music Masterworks.  Columbia Pictures’ The Front Runner will made its debut in theaters on November 6, 2018.   Columbia Pictures’ The Front Runner chronicles the rise of American Senator Gary Hart, his 1988 bid for the American presidency and subsequent fall from grace when news of his extramarital affair is made public.  Originally making its debut at this year’s Telluride Film Festival, the film features an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons and Alfred Molina. Having learned to play the piano at a young age and with an educational background in jazz, electronic and traditional orchestral music, Rob Simonsen has lent his scoring talents to a wide range of film projects.  Since the early 2000s, he’s worked on an expansive list of film soundtracks, among them Love, Simon, Nerve, Foxcatcher, The Way, Way Back and The Spectacular Now.  Under the apprenticeship of composer Mychael Danna, Simonsen worked on films like 500 Days of Summer and Moneyball, in addition to collaborating with Danna on his Academy Award-winning score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi.  In addition to his lengthy catalogue of film scores, Simonsen is the founder of The Echo Society, a Los Angeles-based non-profit artist collective.  Surrounding himself with a network of like-minded artists, Simonsen founded The Echo Society in order to connect, inspire, challenge and enrich the creative community in Los Angeles by sponsoring live, professional sonic/visual performances and offering immersive and interactive audience experiences.  TRACKLISTING1. This is the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the British-American war film, composed by six-time Grammy award-winning composer Thomas Newman. Newman has composed the music to Skyfall, Tolkien, Spectre, Finding Dory, The Shawshank Redemption, and WALL-E, amongst others.

The film was nominated for Nine Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, and winning three.

If usually a Thomas Newman score is quite balanced emotionally wise, “1917” sees the composer stretch his sound to both extremes, from ultra-quiet and ambient to aggressively tense. The result is an enjoyable hybrid that shows that just like Mendes and Deakins, Newman raised his personal stakes for this one.

Three CDs. Live archive release. Start spreading the news: Liza Minnelli's long-lost live album recorded in the very heart of New York, New York is getting the deluxe treatment. When the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-winning superstar (and future Grammy Legend) took the stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall on September 4, 1979, the concert was already a hotly-anticipated event. It would be the first of eleven consecutive shows through September 14 - the longest run in the Hall's history. Not only that, but every show in the five-level, 2, 804-seat venue was sold out. Liza had the foresight to record three nights of concerts; two years later, in 1981, she began selling the limited release on vinyl at her live dates. But, deprived of proper retail distribution, the album never reached a wide audience... until now! It even gets better, though: Liza kept those pristine multitrack tapes of the three nights recorded at Carnegie Hall. The tapes revealed a treasure trove of performances not included on the original double album. These tapes have been painstakingly restored and beautifully mixed by acclaimed engineer Ted Carfrae (Doris Day, Cilla Black) for this first-ever COMPLETE presentation of Liza's Carnegie Hall show from curtain up to curtain down. Denis Villenueve's masterful Blade Runner 2049 features a score composed by legendary maestro Hans Zimmer. The score was composed in tandem by Zimmer and his longtime collaborator Benjamin Wallfisch. The duo was brought in somewhat later in the production process, after the score's initial composer, Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson, ceased involvement due to creative differences. Villeneuve explained his decision to replace Johannsson with Zimmer in an interview with Al Arabiya. "The thing I will say is that making movies is a laboratory," he explained. "The movie needed something different, and I needed to go back to something closer to [the original film's composer] Vangelis. Johann and I decided that I will need to go in another direction - that's what I will say." The decision seemingly paid off, as Clint Worthington notes in his review of the film: "[Zimmer and Wallfisch] lean heavily on Vangelis' original 1982 score for inspiration, but 2049 is refreshingly light on incidental music, mostly allowing the booming, immersive sound design to take center stage." In additional to Zimmer and Wallfisch's original compositions, the soundtrack features songs by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Lauren Daigle.

A great figure in European jazz, the eternal ambassador of Big Band Swing and the inventor of 'crossover,' Claude Bolling is also a prolific composer of film-music. His original soundtracks - from Borsalino and Lucky Luke to the Brigades du Tigre television series - belong in the league of works by Lalo Schifrin or Henry Mancini. This anthology compiled by Stéphane Lerouge contains great Bolling classics as well as rarities (some of them for the first time on disc).

This album is a retrospective that is a must-have for all lovers of musical theater. Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt first won fame as the creators of The Fantasticks- the longest-running musical in the history of the world, with more than 21,000 performances given in New York over a period of 58 years.
