The romantic comedy Singles, in part a homage to director Cameron Crowe's hometown of Seattle, was released at exactly the right time (summer 1992). Nirvana's Nevermind had symbolically knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the album charts at the beginning of the year, and the underground buzz about Seattle bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam was beginning to find it's way past circles of indie aficionados and open-minded hard rock fans and into the mainstream. Singles helped crystallize the idea of the "Seattle scene" in the mainstream public's mind, and it was also one of the first big-selling '90s movie soundtracks (it went platinum and reached the Top Ten) to feature largely new work from contemporary artists. The film is inspired by the troll dolls which became popular in the 1970s. The soundtrack is produced primarily by Justin Timberlake, along with Max Martin and Shellback as additional producers. The soundtrack's first single, "Can't Stop The Feeling!" was written and produced by Justin Timberlake, Max Martin and Shellback specifically for the film and is the first time Timberlake has written and produced with the two Grammy Award winners. The film was Directed by Mike Mitchell (Antz, Shrek Forever After and Kung Fu Panda 3) and co-directed by Walt Dohrn (Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Penguins of Madagascar).

The movie follows an American illustrator in the depths of personal crisis who, after the death of his fiancee, runs out of medication while wandering the isolated Icelandic countryside. His tenuous hold on reality begins to falter, as he is unsure if his compulsions are related to his disorder or if he's being forced to unlock ancient secrets. The score to Spell was composed by Patrick Stump, best known as one of the founding members of the rock band Fall Out Boy. With Spell, Stump has conjured a beautiful soundscape that reverberates with grief and mysticism, as astral and timeless as Icelandic tundras.

Sony Music announces the release of THE FRONT RUNNER (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). The album features a score of original music by composer Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, 500 Days of Summer), who most recently announced his signing to Sony Music Masterworks.  Columbia Pictures’ The Front Runner will made its debut in theaters on November 6, 2018.   Columbia Pictures’ The Front Runner chronicles the rise of American Senator Gary Hart, his 1988 bid for the American presidency and subsequent fall from grace when news of his extramarital affair is made public.  Originally making its debut at this year’s Telluride Film Festival, the film features an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, J.K. This is the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the British-American war film, composed by six-time Grammy award-winning composer Thomas Newman. Newman has composed the music to Skyfall, Tolkien, Spectre, Finding Dory, The Shawshank Redemption, and WALL-E, amongst others.

The film was nominated for Nine Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, and winning three.

If usually a Thomas Newman score is quite balanced emotionally wise, “1917” sees the composer stretch his sound to both extremes, from ultra-quiet and ambient to aggressively tense. The result is an enjoyable hybrid that shows that just like Mendes and Deakins, Newman raised his personal stakes for this one.

Three CDs. Live archive release. Start spreading the news: Liza Minnelli's long-lost live album recorded in the very heart of New York, New York is getting the deluxe treatment. When the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-winning superstar (and future Grammy Legend) took the stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall on September 4, 1979, the concert was already a hotly-anticipated event. It would be the first of eleven consecutive shows through September 14 - the longest run in the Hall's history. Not only that, but every show in the five-level, 2, 804-seat venue was sold out. Liza had the foresight to record three nights of concerts; two years later, in 1981, she began selling the limited release on vinyl at her live dates. But, deprived of proper retail distribution, the album never reached a wide audience... until now! It even gets better, though: Liza kept those pristine multitrack tapes of the three nights recorded at Carnegie Hall. The tapes revealed a treasure trove of performances not included on the original double album. These tapes have been painstakingly restored and beautifully mixed by acclaimed engineer Ted Carfrae (Doris Day, Cilla Black) for this first-ever COMPLETE presentation of Liza's Carnegie Hall show from curtain up to curtain down. Double vinyl LP pressing including digital download. Original soundtrack to the 2017 motion picture. Denis Villenueve's masterful Blade Runner 2049 features a score composed by legendary maestro Hans Zimmer. The score was composed in tandem by Zimmer and his longtime collaborator Benjamin Wallfisch. The duo was brought in somewhat later in the production process, after the score's initial composer, Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson, ceased involvement due to creative differences. Villeneuve explained his decision to replace Johannsson with Zimmer in an interview with Al Arabiya. "The thing I will say is that making movies is a laboratory," he explained. "The movie needed something different, and I needed to go back to something closer to [the original film's composer] Vangelis. Johann and I decided that I will need to go in another direction - that's what I will say." The decision seemingly paid off, as Clint Worthington notes in his review of the film: "[Zimmer and Wallfisch] lean heavily on Vangelis' original 1982 score for inspiration, but 2049 is refreshingly light on incidental music, mostly allowing the booming, immersive sound design to take center stage." In additional to Zimmer and Wallfisch's original compositions, the soundtrack features songs by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Lauren Daigle.

A great figure in European jazz, the eternal ambassador of Big Band Swing and the inventor of 'crossover,' Claude Bolling is also a prolific composer of film-music. His original soundtracks - from Borsalino and Lucky Luke to the Brigades du Tigre television series - belong in the league of works by Lalo Schifrin or Henry Mancini. This anthology compiled by Stéphane Lerouge contains great Bolling classics as well as rarities (some of them for the first time on disc).

This album is a retrospective that is a must-have for all lovers of musical theater. Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt first won fame as the creators of The Fantasticks- the longest-running musical in the history of the world, with more than 21,000 performances given in New York over a period of 58 years. But the Jones & Schmidt musicals also include Broadway classics such as "I Do! I Do!," "110 in the Shade," and "Celebration." Selections from these and 12 other shows are included in this deluxe release, which features many previously unreleased "demos" by the songwriters themselves. Jones & Schmidt worked closely with Producer Bill Rudman for over two years to ensure that this album would best represent their legacy. "The purpose of theater is always to reveal us to ourselves. Another in Harbinger Records’ acclaimed series of Broadway Backers’ Auditions, I Love My Wife Backers’ Audition is a swinging romp about swinging singles with an equally swinging score by Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart. And it’s those songwriters who play the score and narrate the story. Singing duties are also shared by Broadway legend Laurie Beechman and Broadway mainstay Austin Pendleton. This merry quartet has a ball and so will the listeners.

The recording was made to send out to potential backers to entice them to invest in the show. Those who did found this intimate show (the musicians also played parts in the piece) to be a sleeper hit. It opened at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre on April 17, 1977 and entranced the critics. New York Times critic Clive Barnes enthused that the show was “bright, inventive, amusing and breezy.” It ended up playing a remarkable 857 performances.

Our recording also features bonus tracks from two other Cy Coleman shows, Atlantic City, with lyrics by Christopher Gore, and Home Again, with lyrics by Barbara Fried. The five songs excerpted from their demo recordings suggest the range of Coleman’s output in the 1970s.

And for I Love My Wife, informative liner notes by Coleman biographer Andy Propst explain it all. How two couples from the suburbs of Trenton, New Jersey, spend a rollicking Christmas Eve. These friends, with a little help of strong eggnog and other libations (some smoked), decide to explore a ménage-à-quatre. They make it as far as the bed when…Well, we’ll let Mr. Coleman and Mr. Stewart tell you the story. The songs, the story and the enthusiastic creators make this CD a joy to listen to. The 12-page booklet also contains photos from the original Broadway production.

I Love My Wife Backers’ Audition makes for a joyful listening experience and a bit of nostalgia for people of a certain age. A huge hit on Broadway, a rousing score, narration by the creators and performances of two of Broadway’s finest talents. What more could one hope for in today’s parlous times?

David Jenness (1937–2017) is best known as the co-author of the widely read and influential book "Classic American Song: The Second Half-Century, 1950–2000.” In it he explores the final work of the Masters and introduces us to songs written by the next generations of composers and lyricists who upheld the demanding criteria established by their forebears. But Jenness was also a cabaret singer held in the highest regard in Santa Fe clubs. Between 1993 and 1998 he made frequent visits to recording studios, preserving his performances of songs he held dear. He said, “I’ve always loved good songs from the theater and film. In my life I’ve been lucky enough to get to know some of the forgotten songs of songwriters and performers—the kind of songs that singers like to sing late at night during the last set or at a party, or the songs that songwriters have a sneaky love for. “There’s kind of a revival going on of cabaret and theater tunes from earlier eras. I wanted to get the ones I know and love down on tape, hoping you’ll like them, too.” Jenness, who passed away three years ago, only shared his recordings on cassettes with friends. This release marks the first chance all of us have to appreciate a warm, understated vocal style that always honored the songwriters’ intent. He’s accompanied by piano or a tasty jazz trio. And the hall-of-fame songwriters include Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Arlen & Koehler, Kern & Hammerstein, Rodgers & Hart, Lane & Loesser, Ellington & Latouche, Hugh Martin and Stephen Sondheim. This album is nirvana for all lovers of vintage American popular song—especially those who want to be introduced to rarely heard (or completely unknown) material courtesy of Jenness’s marvelous interpretations.

ROCKY IV (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Rocky IV is the original motion picture soundtrack to the movie of the same name. It was originally released in 1985 on the Scotti Brothers label. In 2010 Intrada Records released the original score by Vince DiCola, which was not available before. The soundtrack was hugely successful on the strength of two top-five singles, Survivor's "Burning Heart" (which Sylvester Stallone personally commissioned for the film and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100) and James Brown's "Living in America", as well as Robert Tepper's lone top-40 hit, "No Easy Way Out". It reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 album chart and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It is the only score to a Rocky film not composed by Bill Conti, but does feature some music he composed for the first film. In the film an extensive part of the soundtrack is part of the training, with one track simply named "Training Montage".

The 20th Anniversary Edition of the DIRTY DANCING soundtrack features all of the music from the film sequenced as it appears in the film plus the previously unreleased track "Gazebo Waltz". The package also includes a 16-page color book stuffed with photos from the movie.
